  • What are Accompanying items for a Cherokee Tear Dress

My mother recently made me a Cherokee Tear Dress, I would like to wear it to the Pow Wow's and my husband flute performances. I am not sure what other items should go with the dress. Here are some of my questions.
    1. Type of footwear? If it is moccasins are they short, ankle or tall? Are they beaded or plain?
    2. Belts? I have seen some women wear plain cloth belts, some beaded, some no belt at all?
    3. Shawls when you dance are they over your shoulders or worn at the waist?
    4. Are shawls part of the Cherokee Tear Dress Regalia?
    5. Are purses that hang from the belt part of the Regalia? I have a turtle shell purse my husband made me that would look nice with my dress, but I want to make sure it is correct to wear it.
    6. Necklaces - are they choker or long like a breast plate or none at all?
    7. Hairstyles- any suggestions for that too would be appreciated.

Thank you for any information you can provide.

                If you read that thread
Carefully consider the differences between Eastern and Western Cherokee

What I am describing above is Western Style

I have a tear dress and shawl, but I need to know what accessories I need to complete my regalia. Also, would I dance in cloth and in northern or southern? Please help me with these questions....

Please go to this website (http://happytrails_2.tripod.com/danceregalia/id17.html) and take a look at the "eastern cherokee dance regalia". Has anyone ever seen this at a powwow. It's all new to me, but it looks like it would be quite hard to dance in a dress this long. The lady who is selling...
