  • diff types of songs?

This might sound 'well duh', but i'm still learning (adult-start dancer :)) and i just wanted to make sure: are there diff types of songs for cloth like in jingle? i've been watching and paying attention and i haven't noticed ppl dancing diff. in the competitions (i'm keeping myself to the inter-tribals only), but that thought came to me in my insomnia this morning and i figured it worth asking.

um well northern singers have higer pitched vocals while the southern singers have lower vocals.

with the northern songs, northern dancers are dancing stationary or toe-heel. during the honor beats, you will see some of them raise their fans.

with the southern songs, southern dancers are dancing the regular step. during the honor beats, you will see them bend over and dance in and out from the center of the circle.

          Don't forget the round dance.
The only time its too late to start dancing is when you're dead.

how do you tell if it is a round dance, and how do you differ the step? (or is this the grand entry thing?)

              thanks for all the help!

with the round dance, u'll see stepping sideways around the arena.

grand entry is when everyone comes in lined up.

                  Southern Style Dance/Song Forms
                  by Niwiwan2005
To clarify for the youth on our drum, what are the types of songs/dances that a southern style drum will normally be asked to sing for? The following is what we've seen so far on our travels:

Inter-tribals, War Dances, Memorial Songs, War Mother Songs, Veteran Songs, Sneak-ups, Ruffle...

What Style Songs Do You Sing?
                  by Guest
In reading an email from a buddy of mine last night, I thought of a good topic of discussion. What style songs do you guys sing? I sing almost 100% Lakota songs with some vocables songs from other tribes, and my buddy sings mostly Dakota songs. Just wondering what everyone's forte on this board is...

                  Dance Progression
                  by HeyDad!!
I know that like other songs there are slow medium and fast songs. When singing these songs how should one proceed? For example say your singing 7 or 8 sets, should the first and second be slow, the 3rd slow - medium, 4-6 medium, and 7 and 8 fast?

                  Thanks....
