You both have very pretty dresses! Good work. I saw some other girls wearing similar outfits at the Cherokee Memorial Day powwow. The outfit is a very simple style that doesn't really warrant a special patter, but I remember reading on here (maybe in this thread?) that the patterns were only sold to tribal members. To be honest, I think any seamstress could sew this outfit. Maybe the patterns should be sold to the general public as a fundraiser! lol Anyway I think its great the tribe decided to go with a historical dress and in my opinion, these outfits are nicer than the tear dress that makes everyone look heavy!

no we don't sell the pattern.... no one has sole rights to it....

the EBCI just adopted as Tribal dress..... so if you see someone wearing this style, you should be able to see that they are EBCI....

Like most other Tribal dress you can tell by the way its made as to what tribe they are...
      Well will wonders never cease.....

Thanks for sharing pics of your outfits. Now if I come across it, I'll know what it is. Those do look distinctive, especially with the matchcoat.
Do the skirts get beadwork or silver brooches?

Ah okay, I thought I'd read somewhere on here that only EBCI tribal members could buy the pattern. Thanks for clearing that up!

not much beadwork for this style
            mostly silverwork
you'll see the men with arm cuffs and the gorget(sp)

Only two more weeks until I can wear my dress in public, at the powwow. I am really looking forward to that, and seeing Timmy Tiger again. I wish you could be there too, Okwataga. You two have really helped me a lot. I would never have had the courage to do this otherwise. Thanks to you both!

                        Hi there!
I saw a couple of you ladies dancing at schemitzun this year and i must say I think the new outfits are elegant. But then I am prejudiced being a Northeasterner, we share similar traditional styles.

mayche - tell her she looks very nice and
make sure when ask about what she is wearing to distinguish this is a traditional outfit, not historically traditional
historically - they are either red or blue wool.

                          Very NICE!!1

Your mom's dress is very pretty, MayChe.

Your mom is Traditional Lady, I believe? She and I have spoken on these forums and she was very friendly to me when I was a newbie here. Please give her my greetings.

I wore my dress at the powwow this weekend. I was the only one there wearing that style.

I did what you told me Okwataga, and Timmy Tiger was there to help me out and show me what to do.

Thanks again to both of you!

Has anyone heard this before? is it true?? because she is still growing I wanted to just...

I would like a dancing outfit for my 14 month old son. I saw one for sale for an 18 month old, but it was $250. I can't really afford that and am wondering if anyone has any ideas for me. Perhaps I could make one out of suede fabric, but I don't actually know how.

I'm talking about the actual pieces that make up your outfit. I was recently told that Northern Traditional Dancers were supposed to wear aprons that cover hip-to-hip. Now, I've been wearing a tradecloth apron for years that doesn't cover hip-to-hip. And I've had a few boys ask me pointers on dancing...

Some outfits have been handed down from a family member. Others have been value beyond dollars because of personal reasons. Others like mine, have been specifically made for the dancer.

What would you do if a collector, museum or powwow dancer offered to buy your outfit?
