I would use same amount of fabric as would go into a shawl - about 2 yards . If that is too much for you , then shorten it some .

      Amount of Fabric Needed

      Siyo Steelemagnolia63,

Sorry, can't tell you how many yards needed for the matchcoat. I bought 6 yards for both the skirt and the matchcoat. I ended up having some left over. This is always how I buy fabric so if I make a mistake I still have more to correct it. I hope this helps.

Waleli, wado. My daughter and I added some edge beading to our regalia similar to this. Now we are inspired to add more ribbon work.

My husband helped me with mine; I can't work too long with material, wool, and yarns b/c of allergies. I think he did a good job. It looks orange in this pic, but it is red.

I can't believe we chose the same colors for our regalia. Even the ribbon and shirt are the same color. If you look back through this thread you will see my photo. I also have one in green.

I looked back and your regalia is even more beautiful than mine. You did a fantastic job... as for the colors, great minds think alike.

My favorite colors to wear are red, green, and black.
Our shirts are even pretty close in pattern.

I would like a dancing outfit for my 14 month old son. I saw one for sale for an 18 month old, but it was $250. I can't really afford that and am wondering if anyone has any ideas for me. Perhaps I could make one out of suede fabric, but I don't actually know how.

What components Make a Tradtional Outfit
                        by scottlollar
I'm talking about the actual pieces that make up your outfit. I was recently told that Northern Traditional Dancers were supposed to wear aprons that cover hip-to-hip. Now, I've been wearing a tradecloth apron for years that doesn't cover hip-to-hip. And I've had a few boys ask me pointers on dancing...

                        Sell your outfit?

Some outfits have been handed down from a family member. Others have been value beyond dollars because of personal reasons. Others like mine, have been specifically made for the dancer.

What would you do if a collector, museum or powwow dancer offered to buy your outfit?
