I would use same amount of fabric as would go into a shawl - about 2 yards . If that is too much for you , then shorten it some .

Amount of Fabric Needed
Originally posted by steelemagnolia63 View PostOk I am about to start work on my traditional cherokee regalia and I have one question... How much material for the matchcoat? I have an idea but I am not sure??? Any thoughts here ladies???
Oh and I have managed to get the pattern cut out for the eastern woodlands top....
Sorry, can't tell you how many yards needed for the matchcoat. I bought 6 yards for both the skirt and the matchcoat. I ended up having some left over. This is always how I buy fabric so if I make a mistake I still have more to correct it. I hope this helps.Walk softly on Mother Earth

My husband helped me with mine; I can't work too long with material, wool, and yarns b/c of allergies. I think he did a good job. It looks orange in this pic, but it is red.Attached FilesLast edited by TurtleWoman; 03-11-2009, 07:23 PM.tchrcoun.blogspot.com

I looked back and your regalia is even more beautiful than mine. You did a fantastic job... as for the colors, great minds think alike.
My favorite colors to wear are red, green, and black.
Our shirts are even pretty close in pattern.

by ReneeWCaseI would like a dancing outfit for my 14 month old son. I saw one for sale for an 18 month old, but it was $250. I can't really afford that and am wondering if anyone has any ideas for me. Perhaps I could make one out of suede fabric, but I don't actually know how.

by scottlollarI'm talking about the actual pieces that make up your outfit. I was recently told that Northern Traditional Dancers were supposed to wear aprons that cover hip-to-hip. Now, I've been wearing a tradecloth apron for years that doesn't cover hip-to-hip. And I've had a few boys ask me pointers on dancing...

by WhoMeSome outfits have been handed down from a family member. Others have been value beyond dollars because of personal reasons. Others like mine, have been specifically made for the dancer.
What would you do if a collector, museum or powwow dancer offered to buy your outfit?
