yes I was. And I do. The reason I haven't been danceing is because of no transportation and my dad passed on. I love powwow a lot.

    Shawl holding

Why not make pockets on the top corners of your shawl and put your hands in them? Or mesure your shawl from middle finger to middle finger if your fabric is a little bit longer then that put strips of fabric at the mesurements . idk

If your shawl fringe is knotted, then you could stick your thumbs in some loops if they are big enough. (about 4 to 5 loops from the fold......... I found that out when my thumbs got stuck in some loops as I grabbed my shawl one time.) Then you could grab the rest of the shawl sides up close to the fold.

In my hands*lol* Couldn't resist that one! Just have it folded in my hands, the two top corners, with the rest under the cape, and over my back. Pictures in gallery to explain!

Riverwoman2000 how do you hold your shawl by just the corners??

Powwowchic49 look at pics in the gallery. Many of them show how the dancer is holding their shawl.

For me, I just hold the top corners...:p Can't really fold it over due to the applique on it, but then again, I never have had to do it*l*

OK I've been thinking about this one for awhile! Here's what I do (I think! LOL) Put your shawl on and reach straight out to your sides. Grab the sides of your shawl so that the bottom is hanging straight. Then put your arms in front so your shawl is closed around you. Keep hold of the sides and then grab the top of your shawl up near you shoulders. Slide your hands out along the top of your shawl until you can hold it out as straight as you want. Just make sure you have it pulled tight enough so it doesn't slide off your shoulders while your dancing! After you've done this a few times it becomes pretty easy to know where to grab! Try it with your shawl, see if it makes sense, and get back to me!! I'm pretty sure that's how I do it! I've been doing it so long it's hard to explain now!! Good luck!

    How's everyone doing?

I was taught that you don't want to show your wrists and hands when dancing (as little as possible). My boyfriend thinks that I hold too much of my shawl when I dance. I grip it about half way down the sides and then hold it so that my arms are perpendicular to...

How do ya'll do the fringe on your shawls? I have no idea as to how it is supposed to be done, and I think I have messed up. I sewed it into the hem, with the fringe hanging down, but it looks a little odd... any help is more than welcome! Thanks!
