How old is TOO old?

how old is too old to dance fancy? I'm Jingle now, but I used to dance fancy a few years ago and even at 25 (the age I was at the time) I felt all old..
But now, at 33, I'd like to dance fancy again..
what do you guys think?

I don't think age matters. The only thing that really matters when it comes to fancy dancing is physical fitness. You gotta be able to last a couple of songs with out dropping your arms and staying light on your feet. If you're 50 and can still keep up w/the youngsters then GO FOR IT!

Tracy Moore still dances fancy shawl and she's not a 20 something. Shelly Bointy. there's tons of good dancers still kicking it past their 30 year mark.

I agree being physically fit is a must. Anyone at any age if they have the heart and strength should go for it. Strut yo stuff and move dem feet.

There is no age requirement for dancing fancy. I have seen women even in their late 40's dancing fancy. I have seen women older even dancing fancy. By the age of even 80 if you can still do the basic moves you should still dance fancy and if your heart is into it.
The only time when you know its time to retire from fancy is when you can't do simple basic moves anymore.

I'm 38 and mostly dance jingle. However, I still get the urge once in awhile to dance fancy. Yes, make sure you are in shape not just cardio-wise. Do weight training too, it will make a big difference in your stamina but also help protect your knee and ankle joints. When you have to dance three songs in a row you'll be glad you were prepared!

I agree! I have been doing research on the fancy shawl dance and several older ladies cite Gracie as one of the first people that they ever heard of who pioneered the fancy shawl dance.

Age is not a factor..... conditioning is!

That's a sucker bet Whome.....if Grace competes at Denver she will WIN Denver...lol.

But I do agree that it's not about age, it's about conditioning. Lillian Goodeagle, Grace, Irene Oakes are all about the same age and all in great shape. Grace is in better shape than alot of 18 year olds.

i thought i saw some ..how can i say this... grandmother fancy dancers at morongo..i used to dance fancy when i was a kid and my dream is to dance fancy one more time..im a grandma... and id like to try to get in shape and dance it for one year...im thinking of buying a fancy dance oufit...its not to try to appear youngish..just a goal to prove i can be a good dancer one more time..probably keep me on a good path also

What everyone has said, i whole heartedly agree!

I came to this category when I was 38 myself, and this summer I got to dance at Schemitzun. The senior category bracket was 35 to 49, I would venture a guess that a couple ladies were over 49? They were very smooooth.......

So, I am looking forward to many more years of fancy shawl, providing I stay in shape. I think you should go for it.

I say go for it. I have a dear friend, Mary, here in the NW that still fancy shawls and jingles, and she is in her mid 60's, and very light on her feet too! Gives those youngsters a run for their money too!
