Hey, I'm a fancy shawl dancer who has been dancing for about 5 years. I don't dance with feathers, not by choice. People have told me to buy feathers from a store or to get them from a wild life preservation. I strongly believe that people should wear feathers that are A: given to them or B: have earned them. I was just wondering what your thoughts were?

Feathers
I have a few real hawk feathers and a real eagle feather.
But I also have a few imitation plumes I bought.
And I was actually trying to find some where to buy the big imitation plumes, like the ones alot of the other girls wear.
But I think that if they are real feathers they should NEVER be bought! I was always thought that feathers were given to you. My grandmother would kill me if she found out I bought a hawk feather lol.
But that is just my opinion!*Free Leonard Peltier*

But that is just my opinion!I'm interested more in self determination than gender equity. In other words, changing white men for white woman in the structures of power, does nothing to transform the opression in my community.

I too was taught that they should be a gift, All my eagle feathers & hawk feathers were gifts. And a Woman I work with gives me wild turkey feathers (her husband hunts) becasue she'd rather give them to me then pluck the wings & tails, so that's how I get all my feathers

yeah, I got one feather, its not a plume though. I think its a tail feather cause its big. I don't know much about feathers. But I seen a couple of fancy shawl dancers wearing feathers that weren't plumes, what are your thoughts on that? What does one do when one falls?...One remembers how one fell and then gets back up and keeps on going
I don't believe in New Years Resolutions. I believe in Life Changing Resolutions.

I have 3 real hawk feathers, and a few small imitation plumes. I wear mine everytime I dance! I was also taught that you should be given real feathers... they are gifts, not property!*Free Leonard Peltier*

The issue I want to address is this. On Sat. evening I had a duty to tell everyone with Eagle feathers...-

Not sure if this would be the right place to post this or not but I can't think of where else to put it. One of my friends was given a feather that he was told was eagle. However it is black with a white tip instead of white with black tip. Has anyone ever heard of an eagle that would have feathers...
