how often do you get a double beat or crow hop song? because i personally go to several powwows a year (more this year than past) and i've never seen a crow hop song done. whats up with this? is it a locality thing? i'm on the east coast.

so when they give fancy shawl a double beat, what do you judge it on?..........on a basic double beat or how fancy you are with your steps?........i dont know but I'm used to fancy shawl dancing to straight fast songs..........

Really? Where on the east coast? I'm up in Rhode Island, and I've only seen the double beat once. It's always the crow hop being done around here.

Ohhh man i do love a good dbl beat!! I do it the more old style tradish way... i guess... i dont try to add a lot of steps... maybe just step the right foot a couple times then the left a couple times... but i think it looks better the old style way... no spins or whatever... on the down beats i either go backwards or dance in place...

OHHHH!!! I love a good dbl beat!

Crowhops... eh... they're a BLAST too! as im writing my shoulders started to shake... whats that song??..

Ohhh gimme the feeling that fills my soul... i wanna get lost in the rock and roll and drift awayyyy...

all i can say is a double beat is more of a foot slide... and a crow hop is just that... it's like skipping around to the beat... i LOVE crow hop songs!! i'm not a big fan of the double beat!! (not for womens' fancy anyway) but i have heard that Northern Traditional women look wicked during a double beat!!! they need a video of that on here!

You can't double team a Triple Threat

            ps. i'm still the greatest~n i'm prettylol

Im in ohio and i see it every once in a while at leat twice a year but most on my powwows are in the fall. Last time i danced it i was in PA. Not many drums around here know double beat songs. i guess it just depends on where you're at.

                Differences Between "Regular" and "Crowhop"
                by Guest
Ok, just wondering, what is if any are the differences between the "regular" fancy shawl dance, and the crow hop? :p

Well from my perspective, the crow hop to me, means you imitate the way a crow moves.. aiyee, am I just getting my foot stuck in my mouth?

                double beat vs. single beat
                by bushy_braids
recently i've noticed that fancy dancers are given the double beat crow hop to dance to where they dance "crow style" crow hop... as opposed to the single beat where they dance more "fancy style" crow hop including more jumping around, footwork, and movements.
                now this is...

                by uw_n8iv
I first saw it at Julyamsh...they gave a crow hop to womens northern traditional category (because there were crow women dancers out there).

It's becoming more common. Where have you seen womens tradish get a crow hop for their contest?

on a side note: my older cousin gave...
