  • My Rival

When you walk up to the arena and you see your rival across the way do you get angry or do you happy?

I mean do you say to yourself "shyt there's that girl so and so":Mad or "great there's so and so" lets kick it up a few notches and get this competetion going?

I think I do this at every powwow, but it just makes me try harder. I like most of the women in my category, I try to get along with all of them but theres some that I don't get too happy to see. Theres one particular dancer and she has been beating me lately, and I wonder how is she beating me? So it definitely makes me want to improve my style!!

:Chatter I don't know about you but from my neck of the woods it is all about the judges. When I dance or my daughter dances I can tell exactly who is going to place depending on who the judges are. And if you are from around here most of the time it is always the same people, judging, dancing, attending at every Pow-Wow now I will not say that is always a bad thing, but it is so nice when they do not call the regular ones to judge. I love it when I see new comers around our parts:Jumping: Even when they are in my competision, I kinda get excited:clap:

You got that right. Some judges are friends with some of the dancers and you just know who they are gonna pick.:(

Hey those Head judges or mc's unless they are blind knows who's friends with who. All they got to do is look around. And you know a friend is going to pick a friend. I see it all the time.

A friend is not ALWAYS gonna pick a friend - there are plenty of impartial people out there - I know - I see scoresheets ALL the time. I know there people out there that will not be impartial and I try not to use those people for judges. And then again you have people that will pick others just because they are the underdog. But hey, who are we to say that everyone should think alike when it comes to judging. Who Judge A likes Judge B might not - it is just a matter of preference on dancing, outfits, etc.

OK OK>...i know this is an old thread... and it looks like it got off track... so i'm gonna try n revive it and get it back on track :P

When i was in Jr's and Teens there was 1 girl that'd i'd always swap places with. We're from the same rez and hit all the same powwows.. too boot we had to compete against each other in the School powwows 2... But the great thing was that we were REALLY good friends 2!!! i'm pretty sure we'd check each other out dancing... but not in a bad way... or if it was a trick song.. we'd sneak a peak 2 see if the other one landed or missed the ending... or see how each other stopped!!

and then AFTER wards we'd laugh or talk about the song that bucked us off.... I know when it came time for awards there was that excitement.. and the pit in my stomach if she beat me... but that was my competitive nature.. but i was still happy 4 her if she beat me.... I'm pretty sure she felt the same way or else we woulnd't have stayed friends for the 10 yrs we competed against each other lol...

I think it was worse when someone else beat us both ha ha... then we were like "WTH just happened!!!' lol

You can't double team a Triple Threat

The Black Hills are NOT for sale

                ps. i'm still the greatest~n i'm prettylol

I dunno, I've only done a couple of competition pow wows, but, when I see some REALLY good dancers out there, that I KNOW are better then me, I kinda look forward to it, I get to watch them, and it helps to show me my mistakes, or how I can improve on things.
I like seeing dancers out there that make me go WOW! I wanna move like that!

I likewise have only done a few contest powwows and enjoy dancing with some of the best. I know I won't outdance them, but it does give me an opportunity to watch and learn what I can - and that's a good thing.

When my daughter saw her rivals at powwows, she knew that she had to turn it up a notch because of the tough competition in her category...........as long as she did her best.......... thats what counted whether she won or not, but there were (still are) rivals that are not happy to see my daughter when she showed up for a powwow LOL............but thats what it is: a competition

What type of moves do judges like to see? Ex running or stepping high, almost like marching kind of, or twirling in place, or twirling while moving, or footwork like criss crossing or what?

                        - I wish Google Maps had an "Avoid Ghetto" routing option.
                        - More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can’t wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that’s not only better, but also more directly involves me....

Wondering, A beaded oufit is nice and pretty but cloth outfits are most tradional... Now compition judgeing I think is unfair because they judge you more so by what you wear than you dancing you could be the best dancer out there and be out there for every song and still come up with less points than...
