Ok. Maybe it's just me. But it seems like this is all i'm seeing.

Generic Geometric Beadwork.

By Generic i mean: Just a Diamond, or square, or even just a "V", a few sideways V's. etc. AND they have about 10 colors in them (so you can use just about any shawl and "match")

I miss seeing DESIGNS! It's awesome to check out someones beadwork/outfit who took the time to do a design, make thier beadwork flow and coordinate, or even having a picture beaded right into their work!!

I see these generic designs mostly on Fancy shawlers though. I miss being able to check out other dancers beadwork and asking about them or why, n how they came up with a design.

I hope this is a "Fad" and it ends soon lol

I hear ya!! It used to be you could identify what band of Ojibwe someone was just by the beadwork they had. Not so much anymore, less and less traditional beadwork or designs being used...

People starting to look like a bunch of generic NDNs!!!

Back in the day you spent days weeks months on your beadwork
Usually you had one set beaded up

Now days I see women change different colors every grand entry
so in a three day Powwow thats a Min of 6 different set of clothes

Of course you can mix and match stuff and re use this and that
But its certainly a trend that I have noticed not just with Fancy but down here in the South with Southern Cloth
Whew some of them bring 10 different Dresses!! For a 3 Day powwow cause you never know

But anyway to me that beads alot of my clothes I can picture the creative flow just running low after a few sets of clothes!

I hear ya! and I have also seen some very generic shawl, same designs different colours. Want to know whats worse...I think some people want that because I have been asked twice if I have any examples of more generic work? (why?) Anyway my answer was no. I can't bead the same thing over and over and over I would get bored and then it would take forever.

It's too bad... cause some of the beadwork it self is REALLY nice! Just the designs are... generic...

Hopefully i can get to the point where i can switch beadwork every session! :P (just like Gracie HMH) but her beadwork is awesome and it's been accumulated over the years...:D
