Did you ever own a needlepoint outfit?

:D I did. From far away it looked like bead work. I even used to sew sequins on mine. I'm just curious. This fad is so 15 years ago. When people were just getting started or couldn't afford beaded stuff.

I thought about using plastic canvas for leggings and doing needlepoint with ribbon, just for leggings. I tried a little patch and didn't like it so I decided against it...just curious, in this old fad, what was used? ribbon or yarn or what?

i tried to do this once....and failed ..it looked okay when i started out but when i got have way done it looked really bad ...i duuno? i used yarn though.

I did one with a dragon up the leg an then one around the vest . The cleaner said it was lost ...dont think it was tho .

The needle point that they are referring to is a trend that came about in the 1980's. It's where you get plastic canvas and yarn and sort of whip stitch your design on. I have made an outfit like this and it came out nice. It's really a good project for young girls who get frustrated beading but need to learn to start making their own stuff.
I recommend for any of you outthere who wan tto try this get some of that plastic canvas and some bright bolts of yarn and pick you out a design. This works best with shrap angled, or geometric designs. You will also need a needle big enough to thread the yarn on but small enough to get through the plastic canvas with out tearing your holes.
Then pull it through a hole, tie it off, and just whip up your design!

I saw a fancy dancers outfit done in needle point a few years back. It really looked like beadwork....until you got up close.....it looked pretty sharp.
Thing is.......I think it takes just as long to do the needlepoint as it does the beadwork.

We still have two needlepoint outfits (cape & leggings) from 1987 that are still in good condition. Usually they're used in case we've got pre-teenage girls visiting our family and a powwow comes up.

I wish I would have kept mine. That was before I learned how to bead. Nothing to be ashamed of it was just a fad. Just like sequins and bugle beads. Quicksilver's lil sis had some purty ones.

yeah, this was a trend out in crazy cali too..lol...The McGurk's had some pretty ones, but my all time faves had to be Darcie and Robin's...they were sisters from the bay area...Robin was married to Joe...Standing Elk, I remember..I loved the way those two girls could dance!! Darcie had a purple outfit and Robin's was Pink, I think, that was waay back in the day, at Eagle Rock Pow-wows...I just miss those gurlz...hope they're doing good and still dancin' up a storm!! Those girls had their own style of dancing and really could jam, even reminds me of Netty too, know that I think about it for a second...I just remember watching Robin dance and they could jam at those crow hops!! Just awesome!! Aww..I miss those days...just chillin' with the homies at Eagle Rock or Ford Park pow-wows...awww..back in da day!!
