  • Dance shawl measurements

Hello I'm making a dance shawl for a friend. I was told the measurements are 60"x 60". That's long for my friend. So my questions are after you do your bead work and or applique, do you fold it so that your stitches are hidden in the inside? Or is it one layer?

    I would appreciate any advice.

    Thank You!

Yes, with those measurements, it would be folded. I wouldn't bead the shawl...but applique is good, or ribbon, or painted, or plain.

Most dance shawls nowadays are not folded, but still could have a 2nd layer sewed on to hide the stitches....or not...
    ...it is what it is...

      Thank You so much!!

Another 2 questions if you don't mind.

I will be using gabardine, why not beading? Cause I bought a bunch yesterday :< And what type of stabilizer do you use when appliqueing?

      Thanks Again

            Dance Shawl

Check out the pics of the shawl. Who I made it for was very pleased to the point she started crying. It meant so much to her.

Shawls like other dance clothing should conform to the dancers size and preference. If the dancer is smaller or wider, the shawl size should reflect this.
Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

Hi, I would like to make my own shawl. Could someone tell me what the correct length would be including the fringe? I often see the shawls are 60" and the fringe 13" or 14". Not sure if that total size is supposed to be 73" or if the fringe in included the the length of 60"....

                  Hi all,
I am in the process of designing a new shawl for Shawl Dancing. My last Fancy Shawl I made was a weee bit to long, as I went with more of a traditional length. Like 54 x something inches. It worked out great arm length wise, but, I always had to fold the top over by several inches to...

                  Hello,
My name is Trisha Rose. Im Cherokee (through my father) and I grew up in Indiana mostly. I started going to pow wows when I was 17 out on the east coast (umass, dartmouth) but have never danced. I only wanted to fancy dance but I have mild arthritis so that was a big no-go. :D And I thought...
