Mine are all beaded. I make everything myself. I don't beleave in doing anything half a%%. Besides they last longer. When I'm juding out there and I see a dancer with blow outs and rips, it just makes me turn away.

Mine are beaded. .They were awesome when I first made them ...good for a season though. .Nothing wrong with beading, but I can't hand sew, I'm making new ones, beaded as well, you just can't beat that look, and my friend is sewing them for me. ..

i'm new to the scene and i am learning the dance, so i am a 20 year old beginner, while there are 10 year olds that dance better than i do, yes, i admit it !!! but i am so darn proud of them, that i do not feel that i should feel envious because they are better at something that i am not. they are an inspiration, but here is my ? now, i know that moc's are made from leather, and i wanted to know where u get the leathers from, if someone helps u guys make the patterns, and sew them, and if u put the beadwork together first and then sew them to fit ur feet? do i make any sense? i know, too many questions being thrown at one time, but u gals i need some advice here, my family is so retreated from the traditions, and from the community, that i have only been to 2 pow wows. and i have learned so much in almost a year and i feel closer than ever to my roots and where i should be. i guess i'm what u call a relocated ndn, u know like what the govt. made up to destroy our culture but it almost worked for my family, but then i was born!!! you know what i'm sayin' :curtainca so any tips or instructions would be greatly apprecciated, truly.

            How about painted moccs.
I like painting because it lets you get some truly outlansidh designs on you moccs like tye-dye and other strange patterns.
That way I don't have to worry about mussing up a really beautiful pair of beaded moccs. Plus, you don't have to worry about beads coming off, ever.
My next pair of goofing-off moccs wil have really vivid black and blue flames painted on them.

isn't there some type of chemical that u can use so that the paint won't chip off or something? what really seems to work with me for most of my everyday uses is hairspray. maybe if you sprayed them with hairspray everytime u used them maybe, but i'm not too sure, maybe if u experimented first, and then see if it works.

I've got a pair of canvas shoes that are painted AND beaded (I like to paint a design on first and bead over it, that way if beads fall off, you still see the correct color underneath till you can repair it).

Wherever you buy craft paint (acrylic paint in those little plastic squeeze bottles) you will find "fabric medium" in the same type of bottle (looks like milky-white paint). It's sort of a plastic-y lookin' stuff that you mix 50/50 with any color you want. This works great for me...my pair is 12 years old and I've never had paint peel or crack off. I just have to brush the dust off to keep the beads and paint lookin' sharp!

I use those dye pens you can get at crafts stores, and I also use a lot of fiebings leather dyes. that way my lovely colors don't come out as much. sometimes I will use acrylic paints or something like that, but you really gotta be careful with what kind you use as some do not work on certain materials (i.e. leather)

I will definitely post a pic or two when I get off my lazy butt and finally finish sewing them together.

I have one pair of mocs that's painted(canary yellow/black) real sharp looking, and one pair beaded(orange/canary yellow/lt blue) I like those too. It really depends on which outfit I'm wearing.

All I've ever had were beaded mocs (except for plain ones that I use for ceremonies). I do my own beading and bead for my family.
