i don't know if it's only me or do any of you ever find yourselves with very sore ankles? the first time that happened to me my ankels were sore for a week and i was so scared that i wouldn't be able to dance anymore. i had so much trouble trying to walk around work. the pain shot up to my knees. i tried practicing and i felt like a baby trying to take baby steps, and i probably looked very funny. (ooooh, no wonder why my daughter was laughing and she's just one). and also i read some past posts and someone mentioned that they played soccer and that they had weak ankles, and i could relate to that pain. and i read some exercises that some of u suggested and now i am so relieved. i am glad to say that i have lived to tell about my pain and warn others about it. so i guess my question is if there are any others out there with ankle pains???????

i used to dance with a company up here everyday...2-3 times a day for about an hour and a half each show. i got the WORST pain in my ankles. I've been told that it's got a lot to do with shock absorption. If you think about it....A ballerina on pointe trains for year and years on tiptoes (demipointe) to gather the strength in thier ankles to be able to dance on pointe. That is how they can dance in those crazy shoes and be alright. All the shock in fancy and jingle is in your ankles. On tiptoes real high, there is nowhere else for it to go. The "bounce" in these dances sort of skips the knees altogether...shock is absorbed by the ankles and the weight is shifted through to the arches and tops of our feet...and then the jumpiing upwards goes from feet to our calves to the thigh muscles.....
FYI this is why even really accomplished fancy dancers have incredible legs and bannock belly...there is little to no exercion in the anterior abdomen...its all in the legs and feet.
There isn;t much you can do except stretch before and after to avoid pain later on. You'll probly always get shin splints....when it hurts up your shins....and all the way up to the knees...it supposedly has to do with tendons...not sure why though.

10 pound weights
i use to havethat problem many many moons ago:Chatter one of my coworkers suggested i start putting on ankle wieghts and walk around the house with them on and a really really good work out i do now is stand heels together toes pointing out like at 10 oclock and 2 oclock and very slowly lift self and do this 25 times 3 times. if your first starting out you may want tostart with real light weight and work your way up but i have not had any problems in a very longtime and have strong ankles and calves that dont tire out.Friends dont let friends take home ugly Men. :huddle:

that does make sense as to what meetmeinthegarden stated, about the ballerina's, i never really thought about that, they probably have it worst, but they look really good at it. the pain in my ankles has gone down, but whenever i practice, i do stretch out, but don't work myself out in that so that i can still have enough stamina when i practice, and i practice for a while. comming up with steps, and movements, etc. but i'm waiting for the soreness, or pain what have u to go away. it's winter here already, and it's really really really cold, so that may add on to the pain, who knows. thanx a lot for the statement. i will try out ur exercise, powwowchick. :muscles:If you allow the world to change you, only then can you change the world....

For all of you with the sore ankles there is a natural remedy, something that you gals might enjoy, if you eat your tossed salads a lot, add alfalfa greens to your salad, that has the natural product in it that those glucosamine tablets are made of, one cup of those greens in your salad will make a heck of a difference in all your joints!!!! Trust me, I have a back injury and I can't live without it anymore.Listen to my heart, not just my mouth! The most powerfull thing we can do is,,,share,,, if we don't it dies with us.

oh-my-lanta!! a 16 year old with torn ligaments, ouch. :wounded1: how long did it take u to recover? well i do have to start watching what i eat b/c i am working at a restaraunt for the meantime and u can imagine how everything is so tempting to eat, try this, and try that. and they have donuts too. mmmm donutswell, i have been eating more healthy than before, i cut back on donuts, soda, greasy and starchy food, and gravies. so i'll have a salad, sometimes a dry stir-fry. and then after my meals i'll drink hot tea, which of course most of you know burn ur calories. and for exercise i practice at home of course, and man do i sweat. :22: and i have been sooooo conscious about being tough on my ankles so i tried out an exercise that someone suggested about putting ur ankles together and going up on your toes for about 25 times, 3 sets. i've gotten better actually.

Did you know that drinking water with ice burns more calories than just water!
Your body sends the blood through your system faster to even up the body temperature that has crashed because of the ice in your water. But don't drink cold water during a meal , that slows the digestion down to a halt and it sits in yyour stomach and the fat goes into your system! While eating warm liquids but again not hot. Got that from a doc that really knows her stuff!Listen to my heart, not just my mouth! The most powerfull thing we can do is,,,share,,, if we don't it dies with us.

yeah, i think ur supposed to drink 7 glasses of water a day, to flush out ur system. why do u think u don't rarely see an obese oriental person, or an obese arab, cuz most of their day they drink hot teas. also when i went to take the physical for the air force none of the girls wanted to drink water because they said their weight was going to increase, and then they wouldn't be able to be submitted. but they had to drink water because they needed to take a pregnancy test, and to check for drugs, etc. but then again their body was going to be holding the water until they flushed it out. lol either way, i don't need diets, i just need to eat right. i weigh 98 lbs and you should see the way i eat at work, all the other workers are always telling me, "how can u eat like that and ur still an ity bity thing?" alls in can say is, :dontknow: but i've been like that allll my life. even after having a childIf you allow the world to change you, only then can you change the world....

i didn't even know about alfalfa sprouts until they were mentioned here. well i really used to eat junk like baked chicken with mash potatoes, with some gravy dressing the restaraunt made, and stuffing, a lot of fettuccini alfredo, starchy stuff, but i guess i have a fast metabolism or something. actually the most i've weighed was 110 and i was a vegetarian. and then i got pregnant and i had to eat meat for the protein and i lost weight. i had a healthy pregnancy though, but after i had my beautiful daughter, i weighed 94 lbs!!!!! now i weigh 98. but i will certainly try the sprouts. If you allow the world to change you, only then can you change the world....

it has taken a lot of pain out of my back, specially since I used to be 5' 10" got hit and shrunk to 5' 8.5", the cartilage got pushed out from between the discs and I had trouble just gettin up in the morning, eatting a cup of those greens every day has made me nobile and nearly as good as new. Only on damp days do I tell anyone to dare and ask me to do something!:devilListen to my heart, not just my mouth! The most powerfull thing we can do is,,,share,,, if we don't it dies with us.

that's how my mother and sister could tell if it's gonna rain or snow. if my mother's arm starts to ache, or my sisters legs, behold a while later the rain starts pouring or it snows. yeah, well i gotta get to the grocery store then, i do have to get my joints pretty strong especially because i will be going to basic training in a little bit and i need to feel in tip top conditionIf you allow the world to change you, only then can you change the world....

by Alli3I've had this question rolling around in my head for a couple weeks now so bear with me. See, I am at a wall with my family research, wherein it's so long ago that records aren't much help. There are conflicting accounts of one ancestor's heritage (Ojibwe? Menominee? Odawa? All of the above) among her...

by CEMHere is a post from the N. Traditional Headgear board:
Somebody in this forum made a very good point in that all dance stuff is probably tied in some way to societies/clans. Because of this a dancer needs the "right" to wear or use it. I never really thought about this until I...-
