As for the plumes,I wouldnt worry about offending anybody. The key to our cultures survival is the ability to adapt to the years. SO... now a days a lot of the big named people on the trail are selling and trading too. Not to mention some of the big name drum groups have drug and alcohol issues. (wont give names) . So ... just be carefull about asking for feathers. You never know what kind of stuff comes with them. Advice; try asking some of your friends first, or their parents. Have you heard of fake plumes? Some people paint turkey or chicken feathers to look like eagle plumes. OR you can check out the local craft stores and ask for maribou plumes.. I used those when I got started. Well good luck in your search for plumes.

How to make fake plumes!!
Hey Peigan Princes.
I was reading the adivice I gave you and forgot to add one more thing.
How to make a fake plume:
You need a hot glue gun and fake fluffy feathers.
Take a shishkabob stick and the feathers and start gluing them to the stick. It may take you a few tries to get the plume to how you want it. The trick to making them look real is to play around with it. Whip out the paint set and try dipping the ends in paint. I also heard that dipping the feathers in tea changes the color too. But not Red rose ;)
So have fun making your own plumes!!!
P.s. It might get a little messy, so have fun getting your hands dirty. And if you want anymore adivice, just contact meundefined

Eagle Plumes
Hello fellow Canadian! Have you tried contacting your local wildlife office or zoo. We recently attended a wildlife park where they housed eagles and asked if they had any eagle feathers or plumes from cleaning cages. We explained the importance of eagle feathers to our culture and very nice young man gave my daughter two large feathers and a few small plumes. We left our phone # and he said he would contact us when he could get more. I'm not sure if you would be able to access feathers this way in your area, but it may be worth a try.

hmm thats an idea of calling wildlife zoo...sometimes ya can find them on the street or in back allies...except in big cities like where i live theres mostly hawk, seagulls so to find one here its like good luck..sometimes ya might even get lucky where someone will give ya one or willing to trade...but posting on the net...wel yay a its not tradish but sometimes ya gottta do what ya gotta do..i have one but it took me like forever to get one..mine was given to me...i would either tell yar daughter to wait and it will happen or call wildlife...but sometimes waiting is well worth it..it just takes patience..make sure ya registered though cuz if ya get caught crossing the border with one of those (to the u.s.) ..also if ya see a guy selling it on ebay dont buy it..i dunno does anyone know who im talking about? i wonder if he got arrested...

I was told that it is pretty common in Canada to buy eagle feathers. Don't know if this is nessisarily true or not, but I know down here in the States it is basically sacrilidge to do so. I would second the idea to talk with a zoo. My family was on a trip in Canada and visited a bird sanctuary/rehab place and they offered them the feathers that had fallen. I didn't see any harm in this since the workers just ended basically throwing them away when they clean the bird cages/pens. Also I know its not totally legal but in parts of Alaska feathers are extremely abundant because the population of eagles is so big, so maybe a trek over there and you could gather some?
For some reason this brings back memories of when I had to clean eagle feathers and seperate them from the cartiledge, its a messy job...

:ChatterMy daughters started dancing last year, they don't have any eagle plumes for their hair. When at pow wows I see eagle plumes like there is no tomorrow, some dancers have their hair just covered with them.
:WaveIs it traditional to have the eagle plumes "given" to them...-
