      Clearifaction

I think that some girls need to get a clearifaction on dancing backwards. Is backwards going in the opposite direction of the circle or is backwards, being backwards in stance and still going the correct direction (clock wise). Can an ojibwe explain, since i am not. thanks

I totally agree with you on this.

I just wanted to highlight the difference in this thread. No disrespect out there to the ojib jinglers out there (my best friend is an ojib. jingler, she would kill me if I didnt put this disclaimer in *haha*)

I think that the entire circle question is to reference old-style jingling. I thoroughly believe you need to learn as much as you can about proper protocol from Ojib. jinglers about the proper way to dance old-style, but this circle thing is not that widely practiced amongst contemporary jinglers. You see a bunch of contemporary jinglers spinning (sometimes in full circles) and dancing backwards is widely done out this way.

But I think jinglers should learn both old-style and contemporary practices, know the difference and always, always, always, dance your lil heart out.

just thought that you should know this...when dancing in any jingle dress it is a prayer dress, and you represent life, if you want your life to be good then dance as such, as for the full circle it was told to me that you are undoing your prayers, and you are undoing your life when you dance backwards....thats just what i was told by my grandmothers...
There can only be 2 moccasins on your feet at one time...however life has given me many pair...along with a needle, thread and really sharp teeth to cut with...lmao

Well All I Have To Say Is That I Don't Think It's Right For Jingle Dress Dancers To Be Spinning Around In Complete Circles And Dancing Backwards....i Seen This One Jingle Dress Dancer One Time And She Was Dancing The Other Direction (backwards) She Danced The Whole Song The Other Way And Cutting Girls Off And Getting In Thier Way. It's So Disrespectful...a Jingle Dress Dancer Should Be Graceful And Should Know What To Do And What Not To Do...this Style Is A Beautiful Dance At Powwows..it's Admired So Much...i Been Dancing Jingle For Many Years Since I Was 18 Months Old And I Learned Alot From Others And My Parents..this Style Should Be Respected Because It Has An Amazing History!!!....well I Guess It's Ok For Those Wild Contemporary Dancers That Are Flashy And Trying Really Hard With Their Moves!!...lol...but I'm Down With The Graceful Dancers Especially Old Style...i Have Mad Respect For The Old Stylers Out There (they Make The Style So Beautiful)..also To Those Comtemp Dancers That Keep It Real With Thier Dancing!!!

the ONLY time i find it OK to turn a full circle is if you're doing lady's fancy shawl. other than that absolutly not. it looks EXTREMELY show off-y

well yar right...we(tradish) arent suppose to be going in a full circle or backwards cuz ya dont go backwards but fwds in life at least thats how it was explained to me...
i think that those who do that are on contemporary basis only not tradish...going in circle and backwards is more of fancy moves thats just applied to that type jingle that they are dancing to put more flavor into dancing jingle...im not saying its wrong(since its not my say whats right and whats wrong) ppl for that type of jingle its okay if your going to be contemporary only but you have to be respectful at that same time..but tradish its not right to do that
