You can go the jingle dress gallery and watch the video from the National Powwow from this year. They did an exhibition on each category, orginal style, :)
    I hope that helps.
I prefer the flat footed style, keeping the feet close to Mother Earth. I don't like all the fancy steps, it takes away from the "healing" that comes with wearing this dress.

I enjoy dancing on my toes, it just gets me more into it. I don't do all that xtra footwork and stuff I think that's pointless. But aye this makes me think of this weird dream I had 2 nights go. I was dancing at a pow wow but it seemed like it was jus me and 3 other girls. Before I went out to side step an older woman told me something like when the honor beats come up...don't face your head away from the fan but towards it. And then she told me why but of course it's real hard for me to remember anything that I dream. I thought it was interestin tho.

Oh hey by the way my name is Scout this is my first post

    Flat foot side step

I prefer seeing a sidestep danced on ones toes. I see alot of the dancers that dance flat footed with way to much bounce and movement to look graceful, and they end up looking like well, um, not so graceful. I think that you can tell who is in shape and who isn't.

Hey yall... hmm.. Well I like the flat foot. Its grace full and yeah "the junk in the trunk" works to my advantage! roflmao! But I get tired and sore just watching them girls on their toes! I grew up watching my elders and the woman crossed their legs while they danced side step. I still see many of them dance like that back home. But for the most part we flat foot around and jamm....

I like to dance flat on my feet. But I enjoy watching other dancers who are out there loving what they do. Whether it be on toes or flat feet. So whatever floats your boat!

    0uch !

your probaly right about the fancy shawlers down there...but also maybe not..lol but ouch to the dancers there..i think some people take competition too seriously...and need to go to some actual small traditional pow wows to see how everythings done..like some ppl think their doing good keeping the dancing going but their really juss changing it to win and to fit into todays society...thats one thing i like about Kit l..i know theres prob more but shes the only one i know of keepin it real...and shes even from canada lol..

I blame fancy shawl dancers who feel they can't hang any more for toe style becoming the norm. There aren't more than 5 women in minneapolis who even know what to do... most of them just two-step it.

I'm movin back to canada... i can't take it no more.

Just curious to know how yall fancy shawlers do your spins. Do you change your arms or kick while you spin.. or what do you do during honor beats?

    by Eagle Plumes
My question is if you bead on a piece of paper with the design you want on it is there a chance of little pieces of paper comming up threw your piece? I like the idea of doing it that way cause it would save me a couple of steps from the way i do it. now but not really likeing the thought of the paper...
