  • Need Costume Prices and Ideas

Hello everyone. I am trying to find out the latest prices, on complete jingle costumes. I have 2 daughters, who are interested in dancing, but I don't know anyone nearby, who makes costumes. My daughters are 2 and 5. I would appreciate any information. Also, what are the best colors to use?

: So Sorry for saying costumes :
I meant regalia and dresses. My bad for the wrong words to use. I can thank the person, who told me how to ask the question (won't mention the name). Anyways, I danced when I was 3 yrs old, but because I got put in foster care, I was told to forget it, and sadly I did what I was told. Reasons being, I can't mention. To hurtful, to talk about. I would sure like any ideas. Thank you.

yay it isnt costume its regalia...but what is your daughters purpose for going into jingle i mean do you want them to compete or non-competitive? if its competitive if you cant sew the best bet is littlecrow trading post...you can find them on the net....but in general it (cost) depends on how much your going to put into the dress...ex: if your going to add applique, fringe, sequins and how much material is being used not to mention labor work
a basic jingle dress implies fabric, pattern(jngle) , jingles , bias tape and or ribbon, seam tape ( i use that stuff the iron on kind for all my seems) and zipper....
fabric is usually cotton poly (only kind i used) and theres other kind which im still looking into...
if your looking your girls to go into jingle non competitvely best bet is to go to some powwows in minn since your close by than ontario and ask elder jingle dancer there...shell help you and yar girls out

Better yet, since they are young and still growing fast; make them an apron, with jingles on it, and just change out their under-dresses as needed.

wow so not a shinob on here imagine that!!!!!

you know this is just wrong, although some good sites have been given out the origional question still pisses me off. do not blame the person who told you how to ask the question take your lumps. what you said was disrespectful to my culture and the dress. i hope that these girls will only be dancing comp.

To come to SDSIOUXGIRL's defense, where she is from most of the elder people call these pow wow outfits (all styles) a costume. It isn't meant as any disrespect, it is just the common terminology used. The sioux word for these outfits is Lakota Wokoyake which literally translates into "Lakota items you tie on" and this is most often transferred into costume.

Like I said, no offense is meant, and I'm sure SDSIOUXGIRL meant no offense whatsoever when she asked her first question, its just what is used up in South Dakota by MANY of the old people.
I think everyone on this rez is addicted to Harry Potter...lol...

well i guess you cannot expect people to be respectful of you if you are not of them, so i will take what you say. it is just that it really did offend me. i think my advise to her is that maybe she should spend some time to find out about the history of this dress and its meaning, and her kids will dance better if they are educated on it, they will perhaps show more reverence. (sp) i am not that old and do not know that much but i have never heard anyone but white people call them costumes, now i know. does not mean i like it though lol

Yea MIgiziwomen .. i'm with you on this one .. and .. not that it matters ..but i really don't buy that "costume" comes from the Sioux elders out thar in SD, I know lots of Traditional Elders in SD and I never once heard them say Costume/s.

and again .... If you don't know about something, you should really go to the source or close as possible .... this is why we are seeing young ladies out here with cut out jingle dresses ... floresant / neon booty huggin jingle dresses .... etc ...etc ... because people don't take the time or effort to learn about the dress and the meaning of it and also the dance.

                            just my 2 cents!

                            laterz .... geegz
