its prob a little late but........

i was just reading your thread and i thought that i'd give you an idea my daughter FINALLY got some plumes yay!! anyway i was thinking of the hanger thing and well once i did that i found it a little heavy for her so i did a little brainstorming and i came up with this
i use guitar string the thickest one is still lighter than hanger wire it works awesome!! its light it springs apart so the plumes are held firmly in place in the barrette and you can take it out and use it in other outfits
so people tell me what you think of this idea or if you'd try it

i forgot to say that i bend it in the u posistion and i beaded the area that would be showing under her barrette it looks awesome ill post some pics soon

I have mine that are on a coat hanger, which is duct taped to my back barrette. Holds well, won't move, no danger of losing them. Pictures are in my gallery
