  • underskirts

I've been told it's only proper to have an underskirt underneath your dress. Lately shorts or spandex are the common thing to wear underneath.. do yall think this is something that is approporiate?

I like the underskirts. I have one dress that has an underskirt with it but my other dresses are one piece and I usually wear capris or long leggings. In my opinion, I can see if it's really hot then you would want to wear something cool underneath if you pull your dress up but not the daisy duke shorts. I think someone on here said that they make cotton slips to wear underneath.

I like the underskirts. When I design a jingle dress for someone i always go with the underskirt. I think it is cooler on the legs then shorts or spandex (cause the air can move all around). However one of my closest friends wears bike shorts but her reason is that she also is a hoop dancer & it's easier for her to change from one to the other that way.

        underskirts

Trying again, my text did not appear the first time....

I agree that underskirts are cooler and more comfy.
No un-feminine spandex yanking for me, LOL!! I make my underskirts with decoration and/or jingles around the hem so they are seen as part of the dress. One dress I have has two matching underskirts, each one a different color.

I made mine so the skirt w/ jingles goes over the dress- so I guess I have more of an "overskirt" than an underskirt. I think jinglers wearing shorts is inappropriate to say the least.

            owno....

ok, i'mma dood so I dont usually mind spandex... just jokez. I've seen alotta fancy dancers wearin mini spandex and such with them twirly skirts...I know a TON of lil ol grannies that are P.O'd about it. Sometimes even I think its a bit much if ur skirt twirls clear up to you waist and such. Same with ladies who wander around in tanks and spaghetti straps....but it could be a regonial thing too, our northwestern tribes have always been known to be covered up, wearin undershirts and slips and leggins, its not kool to be showin a ton o' skin.

On the fancy shawl dancer issue; I put bike shorts (your mini spandex) under my girls skirts cause kids arn't always as lady like as we would wish. I make thier skirts twirly, but so that they don't twirl over the knee (it's all in the design). So basicly I fell that seeing spandex under my kids skirt is better then what might be seen without. With the shorts all that could possibly be exposed is the back of thier knee.

I make pants to go under my dresses. They're kinda designed like those gaucho pants you see chicks wearin' all the time. Those are more comfy for me because I dont have to worry about them coming up with the dress when your trying to sit down.

Definately a fan of underskirts but sum time its smart to wear the breathable bike shorts to...it helps to prevent chaffing and sweating and all that other un-lady like stuff... Mind you i still wear the skirt, even with the shorts...

I do like the underskirts but if you are at a outside powwow to me they seem to be hotter even if they are made out of thin material then they seem to want to stick to ya. So I switched a couple of years ago to shorts and in these parts that is what I see most of the women wear is shorts.

I actually do both spandex and an underskirt. I do the spandex to prevent the chaffing but the underskirt for modesty.

                          underskirts

Out here in Cali theres a bit more informal attitude when it comes to modesty. My cousin wears shorts under her dress simply because its a comfort issue for her--she's a bit of a tomboy so it is just easier for her to be at home with herself.

I have underskirts but I wear spandex pants underneath them because the skirt doesn't always want to stay down when I'm lifting the bottom up to sit. Hey, better to be safe than sorry. I ain't tryin' to flash some poor unsuspecting soul alla dis here goodness. haha

I think that if someone is dancing jingle, they should ALWAYS be concerned about modesty.
