  • just one braid

I was taught to wear my hair in one braid straight down the back, which is fine, but I'm not sure how I should work the whole hairtie wrap thing.

right now, I have a barette that holds my plumes, a side barette that holds my floppy macaw feathers, and leather fringe at the end of my braid with a rosette. but somehow, my braid bothers me. I feel like I'm missing something. any ideas?

any hair style is fine with dancing jingle...ive even seen some dancers wear a bun...braid tends to be more practical because it stays in place...with a bun you might be playing flopsy mopsy and trying to redoo your hair...

the more common is to have 1 + plumes in hair for the back with a xlarge barrette holding it and then just leaving it as that for 1 braid...for 2 braid 2 small side barrettes and then one x-large big one in the back and ribbon wrapped around the braids where it splits off and then the rosettes attached.

All it is ...is weaving from back to front sort of basically in lamens terms strand a over strand b ...i dunno how to describe it i just do it..

macaw feathers used? i never seen macaws as side feathers but it would give more color...

I doesn't sound like your missing anything. If your braid bothers you, I've seen some dancers fold their braid in half and put a barrette over it to hold it up.

As far as side feathers go, I've seen all kinds of feathers and all colors used.
      Don't ever stop dancing

Yeah, I would put it in 2 braids, but I was taught just to have one down the back.
Should I wrap it like I would if I had 2 braids w/ a rosette and ribbon fringe or what?

well you can have one braid that hangs off to the side i call it a side braid those always look pretty...but naw dont wrap it with anything if you only have one braid..you can always make up for the lackness by having side barettes its more like experiment and see what looks good

Depending on how long your hair is you may not even want to wrap your braids. My cousin's hair goes to her knees, so when braided they look beautiful without wraps, she simply ties on her beaded hair ties to the bottom and leaves it that way.

                Eagle plumes...how to wear them?
                by cherokeemom06
I am not a registered tribal member so I know I can't own actual eagle plumes. My grandmother gave me money to order what I wanted (she suggested feathers or plumes so I took that as a big hint as to what she wanted) as my Christmas gift. I ordered two side plumes from walela49 and I can't wait...

I made a roach a few years ago, and from the porky hair I started with, I had a bunch left over. I gave that roach to a friend and now I am starting on a new one. I bought a bunch more porky hair and had the leftovers from my last project shipped to me from my home in VA. Well, when I opened the...

                Wearing feathers
                by chibi
My friend recently gifted me with a large eagle feather, and told me I could either dance with it, or wear it in my hair. I would like to wear it in my hair. It's a large feather, about seven or eight inches long with nice bit of plumage at the bottom. I know jingle dress dancers don't traditionally...

                Braiding Hair/Other Styles For Dancing
                by Creewoman05
For those that braid their hair, and others that might not, how do you wear your hair when dancing? I am going to a pre Valentines dance tomorrow, and I can't do two inside out french braids, which is how I would like to wear my hair... that and have to have some kind of design so the back barrete stays...
