    BIG QUESTION

Well first of all, Do THEY want to dance? Cause if they don't want to dance, it won't matter how hard you try they will refuse....
My son danced when he was small, we were travelled alot, and when he got to be about 4 or 5 he just said he didn't want to dance anymore, so I didn't pressure him...now they he is older hopefully he will WANT to in the future..
But if they do want to dance, take em' to powwows, let them watch and choose what they think would be the best dance style for them....go from there......find someone in the community who will help you - teaching of making outfits, etc.......

The best way to get you r kids interested is to just take them to powwows and let them make the choice. Because, if you force them to make the choice, they will not like dancing.
They would have to have an interest first, once they show an interest you can encourage them to dance.

Show them by example as well, you dance in the circle. you do not have to have regalia to dance, just go out and dance and enjoy yourself. If you become a regular on the powwow curciut and make friends with the dancers, you will have many resources to get your ideas from to make regalia and learn how to dance different styles.

      Most important, have fun...

You never know, you could be making regalia for yourself and going out to dance

        Hi,

I've attended Pow-wows since 1991 and I've never danced. Although my heritage and ethnic origin is North American Indian. I've never learned the dances. Will you teach me. I live in Eastern, North Carolina. I love Pow-wows and the drum and the people.

My husband is Lakota, he was never taught to dance and none of his family are dancers, but he wants to dance and he wants our daughter to dance someday too. Problem is, we're off the reservation, like 1700 miles away lol and his only chance of possibly learning to dance has ignored his emails. ...

Okay, here's the deal. I want to start dancing next year and I have a problem. First off I want to make this very clear that this is not a criticism of anyone. This is just my personal desire to honour my Ojibway heritage.

I am a full blooded Ojibway from the Saugeen First Nation and...
