  • The Colour Purple

OK so I'm thinkin about makin my own jingle dress regalia (I used to dance it when I was little). I have a feeling it's gonna take me awhile because I'm new to sewing. But anyways I have a specific colour scheme in mind and it's purple and white. Like a really dark rich, purple. It's one of my favourite colours. Anyway I told this to my mom and she said that she heard somewhere that the colour purple was the colour for death among native people (She is half Ojibwe and half Cayuga, but she was never taught the traditions of either one, she just knows the the basics, we're trying to learn more though). I was wondering about it and it would be great if any of yous have some knowledge about it.
It got me thinking though and I remembered that the Confederacy flag of the Six Nations was purple and white and it symbolizes unity so I'm confused lol.
I am planning on seeing an Ojibwe elder about this also.

      Never heard of that.

Purple is a beautiful colour. One of my dresses is a deep purple colour and I love it. It's old, one of my faves :)

when I am going to make something a shawl a dress etc. I always research the colors. I have never seen anything that links purple to death I have only seen rebirth, spirituality, calming and all good things. Besides it is a beautiful color. Good luck with your creation.
