  • Over The Fall And Winter

I know for many of us, the fall and winter times are times for planning, creating and designing new dresses and beadwork. Is anyone planning any different designs, or sticking to your own unique style, or anyone going old style, going contemp? What are your plans for the long cold season ahead of us in terms of new dresses/beadwork?

I've just made pretty much standard dresses for myself but this fall and winter I'm going to incorporate a bit more colour, doing a yoke or cape with cowery shells and trying out a bit of a different look. Maybe I'll even make me a vest. Wow eh? :p

I am making my son's first regalia since he will be walking by the spring. I am excited. I like making baby things. Well I dance Women's Tradish (Northern) I am making a new regalia, but taking my time in between other work, & as I have cash, so probably not done for the coming spring, but the beadwork will be a more traditional design. I made a new ribbon skirt & shirt & my new regalia will be the same colours & similar patterns so my mocs & hair peices etc will match both.

I'm working on my kids new regalia - new fancy shawl for my lil girl and my lil boy's first grass dance outfit (he'll be 2 next August) and working on lots of beadwork orders. Plus my hubby has decided to start dancing so he wants regalia too. Aye....I have my new jingle dress sketched out but it isn't getting put together anytime soon.

I'm working on a new jingle dress and set of beadwork for myself this winter and then I also think i'm making some ribbon shirts for my boyfriend. I think i'm just going to keep my new jingle dress old style, not much design or color on this one, just in the beadwork.

I am working on beadwork for my family: Son is No. Tradish, Oldest Daughter is JIngle, youngest daughter is Fancy Shawl. I have been wanting to get an old style dress done for myself as well..so that is in the making. These are my winter plans.

What I get done will depend on how long and how cold, lol!
I have on my list two old-style jingle dresses to finish plus a set of beadwork and pair of mocs. Then there is a Northern dress yoke which seems to be forever relegated to the back burner...

I'd like to get some new dresses sewn, if I can ever learn to say "no" to taking sewing orders lol

I also want to get my husband out there this summer so I intend to work on his stuff over the winter. (Started it a few years ago and it just kept getting pushed aside to take on sewing orders for others) I need some leggings redone or replacement ones but those will have to wait along with the new dresses and everyone else's inquiries lol My dresses will probably be on the contemp side with an old style flair to them. Nothing too crazy or wild lookin though lol

Hopefully I have the time to do all of the above before summer!

When things settle down, I'm going to start work on my new set. I've seen it, just waiting on instructions on how to make it.

I have been asked by my sister to make my neices regalia hopefully by Christmas as a VERY special gift for the young girl

but i have a question, what exacally should i make for a 2 year old girl? the reason i ask is she is trying to dance and bounces up and down almost as if she is jingle dancing, is 2 abit to young for a jingle dress? or should i make something else? currently for her birthday i'm making her, her first plume and barrette, the barrette is going to be beaded and when i finish look like a panda( though it my frist attempt to bead thing other then rosaries and sculpted trees, so definately different then what i'm use to) and is looking good already.

When my baby girl turned 2, we started her fancy shawl dancing, but she's adding a jingle dress next year (she'll be 4). She's getting a jingle dress and her new fancy shawl outfit for Christmas this year too. I attached a pic of her new yoke. The biggest reason I started her in fancy was that was what I had materials to make and I couldn't afford to do jingle. Plus I wanted to test the waters and see what she wanted. However, I've seen lil jingle dancers so I think it'd be ok. I just switched to jingle so she's getting a jingle dress so she'll quit bugging me for a dress like mommy's. Plus there are days that she just doesn't want to keep up with a shawl.

You have to post pics when you get it all done!

i will ^_^ it hopefully going to be the purple i selected for it, if not my sis wants a dark green, i may look into making some cute applique with panda(little Kari's favorate animal) for it as well but i know it will take awhile which means i have to put anything else on hold till i finish, did i mention her birthday is tomarrow and the party at 1pm... so after i rest my eyes some i will have another long session of beading to do so i can finish^_^

and that yoke is adorable, post pics of her in it to^_^

Awesome! I too, am planning some old style floral Anishnabe beadwork.

I think the fall and winter is a time when Anishnabe women lovingly create floral fantasies for ourselves and our families.

As most of us here in the southeast, are gearing up for another round of pow wow season, I've been actually doing some beadwork and fancystar has done some beadwork also for herself, may start on some stuff for her son. I'm going to start on some beadwork for my boys, headband, neakties......

This is my first post after "lurking" for some time now. Anyway, thought I'd start off with a question.

Getting back into dancing after nearly a 20 year absense. No real "connections" here where I now live, so I have been "out of touch" for a while. Anway,...

Since most have some type of beadwork on our outfits. do you stay withing a certain tribal design? or do you just design your beadwork? or is it a family style?
Just curious as to where everyone gets their ideas
