I dont want to stir up a can of worms, but i have to ask: Why do some jingle dress dancers get so fancy, their legs so high kickin out and stuff? Why don't they just put on a Fancy dress and shawl instead of looking spastic out there? I have also noticed that the majority of these dancers don't know how to sidestep properly. some one explain their thoughts on this and where do we draw the line? peace and b well:Chatter

i know exactly what you are sayin.i hate it when jinglers get out there & kick up their legs!!!it makes them look like they have no idea what they are doing.theres a difference between gettin fancy & knowin what you are doing and making it look good than gettin out there & lookin like a spastic dork!!grrr i hate it when they do thatwho lives in a pineapple under the sea? man i wish it was me!

I would just love to see jingle dress dancers dance in the fashion that was truly meant to be. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Everyone has their own style of dance in their own category. Don't be too harsh, girls.....maybe that one jingle dress dancer is thinking about those who cannot dance and maybe another is praying for her family, etc etc. Yes, they make kick up their legs a bit too high for the style and so on, that is true, but one day they will learn to tame it down a bit! ;) Have fun dancing!"Gaa wiin daa-aangoshkigaazo ahaw enaabiyaan gaa-inaabid"

well maybe they're just coming from being a shawl dancer..so thats the only way they know how to dance ya know? i mean we cant criticize how a person dances cuz we dont have the right to critisize..we have to be humble in a way about this eventually it may take them time to learn how to dance tradish style or maybe eventually they'll always dance that way who knows only them....i think everything is meant for a reason and the reason could be maybe they need someone to look up to teach them how to be more mellow when they dance...well ya can see im tired im repeating my self*rofl* okay wellyall get wut im saying yay?i only see it this way cuz i used to be a shawl dancer once so i know how hard the transition is sometimes-becca

to everyone else, thanks for your input, I feel that if girls really knew the meaning behind the dress and the dance they would not make fools of themselves showing off their legs and getting to crazy. This is a healing dance, just because it has become a competitive dance doesn't mean that those teachings should be lost. peaceaLWAys KEep yOUr werds SOFT AN sweET, jUST iN cASE U HAFTA eat THEM...

While it's true that many times individuals may dance in a way that causes us to kinda look at them funny, those individuals may actually be following the spirit and meaning behind the dance. Granted- they may/may not know that what they are doing is causing embarassment to themselves and others. This is true with ALL dance styles. We've all seen it at dances before. You can talk to some people, but many turn a deaf ear and consider it a personal attack upon themselves and their Nativeness. All we can do is keep them in our prayers.

I've seen some real good jinglers and some that are "way out there". The one that "takes the cake" is a chick who had a dress cut clean up to her thigh, skin tight and a diamond hole cut in the back with SKIN showing. It was embarassing!!!!!:oyeah, yeah, yeah...
...never underestimate the power of stupid people in groups...
If quizzes are "quizical"...What are tests?

Osiyo, I have a question...is it possible to be a fancy shawl dancer AND a Jingle dancer like on separate occasions? Also, I've taken an interest in fancy shawl, but I don't know how or where to start on designing my regalia. Any tips?

This weekend at an intertribal, non-competition, powwow I saw something I've never seen before. There were two ladies there who weren't in fancy shawl regalia, but danced fancy shawl. Both appeared to be in their 30s and danced the traditional cloth style all other times. One wore a tear dress and...

What does everyone think about children dancing jingle? I've heard some some people say they don't care and others are against it cause of the history of the dress and dance.

Since eveyone has an opinion or knowledge of jingle dress dancers, here is my question. If Jingle dress dancers are supposed to be about praying and only certain people should be jingle dress dancing, then how do you judge a good jingle dress dancer? Should there even be a jingle dress competition,...
