  • How Did You Learn to Dance Jingle??

    How did you jinglers learn to dance? There are straight steps and there are fancy footwork and there is the side steps. How did you learn these various steps?

    Growing up on the Saskatchewan powwow trails ..then just practiced on my own.:)

      Came natural I'd have to say, cuz. Y'know uncle he is a natural at that jiggin think we inherited that from him! *L*
      I watched some tapes/videos on powwow dancing too. Plus watched other dancers and sort of "stole" a couple of moves. *hides* *L*. :Chatter

        well i learned to side step on my own,but my fancy steps i made up and the regualr old way i just watched other girls dance.
        who lives in a pineapple under the sea? man i wish it was me!

          Same as everyone else. Watched tapes, pow wows, and imagination. Practiced in the living room. :)

            well i learned jingle from my mama i practiced with her at home when she was still dancing jingle at that time before she switched and then i also watched others...with shawl when i was dancing shawl long long time ago i came into it when i was a toddler and just went out there and danced i finally learned how to advance my footwork from watching my cousin rachel..i've also watch vhs that my mommas taped from all powwows i danced at so i can watch what i need to improve...becca

              i've just been doing it since i was a little girl. my sister taught me a little, then i got the rest of it on my own later. and i use to watch other girls when i was little, so that's basically how i learned.:)

                i learned from my grandmother, my mom, my aunts and i think i was naturally born with dancing...thats all have to say aboot that

                  a freind of mine showed me some steps, then i started just watching others and also powwow videos... my first powwow that i danced jingle, i really sucked but i hung in there, and the girl that taught me some steps ... she ran out on the side step, i stayed in the circle and tortured myself .... :Chatter

                    I learned by watching other people and also my cousin teaching me some of her moves.:)

                      I learned from my Auntie Alanna Tootoosis, she was the one that dressed me and brought me out for the first time. The crazy thing is that I don't dance one bit like her! LoL :Chatter

                        ohhh you've learned from the best of them. Alanna is a great dancer!
