i have a plume i wear on the side of my head and a tail feather that i wear in the back. i attached the plume to the barrette using the fishing lure-hook-type-things so that they move freely. i don't attach the tail feather to my back barrette. i just clip the feather to the back of my head w/ a regular metal hair clip and then put the barrette over it.Don't ever stop dancing

feathers
I want an opinion...my little girl is like all young ones...wild when it get to running around or what not...I would rather her not where eagle plumes and she is bent but I'd had an alternative...if i made the Macaw feathers up as a small feather in her hair "to be coordinating with her dress" Like the little clips with long bugle beads and attatched the feather at the end...think it would look cheezy? I just need an alternative so my little one doesn't reck her plumes. "sounds so goofy to ask but hey i just would like an opinion....thanks :)

macaw feathers
Hi firecloud,
I don`t think that would look cheesy. And like you said, it wouldn`t be good to give her plumes to wear because they might be ruined or have to tell her all the time to be careful. Why not do it that way, so that she can have fun and as long as it matches the rest of her regalia. I`d do it!

usually, my grandpa puts my plumes together. when i do it, I attach my plumes to each ends of the wire, secure them with either super glue, tape ar thread. then I bend the ends of the wire together. For one plume, I wrap the two ends together......ummm if I use colored thread I wrap the plumes with beading thread or a stronge thread first...jus in case the colored thread doesnt hold well.....well hope this helps. just attach the feathers to the barret by sewing the wire to the barret after you attach the feathers to the wire.
hope you can understand this.......lol:)If you feel like you are under control your jus not going fast enough!

The feather itself is a work of love, I take a shishkebab skewer and cut the bottom end of a quill of and add a few drops of glue on the hole of the feather and slide it onto the skewer, then I wrap layers of fluffy feathers down the length of the skewer, and add drops of glue over the thread as I go, the final part is sliding the feather assembly into the heat shrink tubing!!
I use a 5" length of heat shrink tubing (this comes in many colours),,, put a finished feather assembly in each end, warm the ends so they close around the feather, fold it and then sew into the frame of the barrette, I also go one step further, on the cover of the barrette I add moose hair tuffting in the design of flowers! I sew the cover on last.Listen to my heart, not just my mouth! The most powerfull thing we can do is,,,share,,, if we don't it dies with us.
