  • how much$$is 2 much for beadwork?

just wondering what is the most anyone has paid for beadwork? there is set i seen for 4700.00 for a crown, hairties, choker, medallion ,earrings, drop and purse.
is that too much? it was good work, lots of rhinestones. but even i know rhinestones dont cost that much.

I think that's way too much; but I consider myself to be "cheap", and like to make my own regalia anyway. I've seen full sets for under $1000 before. Only pay what you can afford to. Otherwise, learn to bead...

I think that is alot, depending on WHO made it. There is a woman who comes on here, beadwork to die for Also, it could be the Beads, Rhinestones, etc, but hey if you have that much, go for it! To me, that would be akin to getting a wedding gift, for a cost like that, but who knows someday I just might..... meh,( I got a man that can bead that's for you baby)

Wow, $4700 seems like a lot. I know several people who sell their set of crown, hairties, medallion necklace, purse, and choker for $700-1000. I know this one lady who sells the crown and hairties for $500. They all have some nice work.

I bead all of my niece's beadwork. She gets a great deal because she's my only niece. *LOL* I beaded a set for myself, but I haven't danced in a while, so I decided to sell a set of crown, hairties and necklace for $350. It was used, but it's still in excellent condtion. I just sold it a couple of hours ago. Yea!

I think I know the set that pinklady is talking about. It is a set that is for sale at Sharps Indian Store – www.sharpsindianstore.com . It is one of the most beautiful and intricate sets I have ever seen!!!!!

Is it worth the money? Yes, No, Maybe. I think it is up to the individual. If I was a women and wanted to make the most ‘killer’ set of powwow clothes, then YES, I would find a way to buy this group of pieces and build a dress/outfit around it. But that is just me. I have made several sets of fully beaded clothes for myself. I mean top-to-bottom solid. It just makes me feel good to dance in an incredible outfit. If you look at most of the top dancers, they have beautiful beaded outfits. Any of those outfits would be worth $10,000 ++. It just depends on what kind of outfit you want.

Don’t get me wrong, dancing is the most important thing, I don’t care if you have a set that has been handed down, mix and match outfit, no beadwork on your clothes, …… Get out and dance!!! However if you want a great fully beaded set of Powwow clothes that are well made, and you don’t have a relative that can make a set for you, you will be paying big bucks. Michael Roberts (ya’ll know him – champion Fancy Dancer) was quoted once, saying that he could “buy a small sports car with what one of his fully beaded outfits was worth”.

Please, no one take offence at this. I have seen beaded sets that are worth $1000 - $1500, and I have seen sets that are worth $4700. This set is definitely worth it. I wish I had made it, because it is incredible art and will not stay in their stock for very long!!

Should consider paying others what you owe first before contracting more work. But that's just my opinion.....protected under the First amendment.

oh dang... if that's the set then yeah, I'd be asking that much for it!!! There's a few hundred in beads alone, and a few hundred more in rhinestones and then alllllllllllllll those hours that must have went into something that intricatE!!! This is master beadwork and I'd kiss the toes of the person who made it LOL!! No, seriously. I would!
