  • Handle beaded edging

    Hello all,

So I have looked and combed through this forum about beaded edging and have not been able to find anything about it.

I am working on a rattle handle and I wanted to do some particular beaded edging on it. I have seen it before and don't know what its called but I have heard it be refered to as "zipper stitch." I wanted to put it on the buckskin on the bottom of the handle.

    something like this

    Any tutorials out there?

    Hi Itzhecatl,

The stitch you are wondering about is the easiest of edging stitches. I found a tutorial that should help you out. Happy beading!

Thanks Suzi! I knew it wasn't too difficult but I couldn't find anything on it. It figures that I had the name wrong. Are there others more complex?

Yes, there are.....as they may seem. However, once you get the basics down pat, they are a lot of fun. I just went upstairs to my beading book/ craft book library, looking for something else that might help you. One of the most recent beading books (Beadwork Techniques of the Native Americans, by Scott Sutton) has a nice section on edge beading in the applique beading section. It shows more types of edge beading & is easier than me trying to explain how to do them. You might want to get this book. Besides that, this book has every bead stitch & projects & basic info to get started with beading.....and the pages are all in color!!!!!!!!!!!! Check it out!
