That is interesting, I have never heard of it. I would like to know as well.
I didn't do it, honestly. I have burned all the proof.

Never heard of a beading "bible" I don't think there are any books that cover everything about every style of beadwork in great detail.

Maybe they're talking about "The Golden Book of Indian Crafts" by W.Ben Hunt!:Chatter :Chatter :Chatter

Only one I believe I would call the beading bible is "Beading in the Native American Tradition".

here is a link that people are talking about it..

Dear Folks........Thanks for putting "Beading In the Native American Tradition" in such high esteem. As the writer of this work it is always good to get a pat on the back. Another book that is often put into this group is "Native Beadwork" by George Barth. Check it out he makes some good points.

Dear Folks,,,,,,,,,,Thanks for your kind thoughts. As the writter of "Beading In The Native American Tradition" it is always good to be recognized. Another book that many consider like a bible is Native American Beadwork by George Barth. Check it out it has some good points. Realize that no one has all the answers and sometimes it takes a number of sources to realize how something is really put together

nabeader hit it right on the head. Hi David, know who this is?

Both the Dean and Barth books are great for starters. But no source will ever be totally inclusive of everything. I'm too poor to own a copy of Beading in the NA Tradish but I seem to remember a little discrepency in the explanation of sidestitch and the illustration. No? It's still a good resource. And the pics aren't half bad either, eh! Everyone go out and buy it......

Then give it to me for X-mas!

One more book by a former instructor at The Institute of American Indian Arte in Santa Fe, NM (IAIA) is

The Complete Guide to Traditional Native American Beadwork : A Definitive Study of Authentic Tools, Materials, Techniques, and Styles
                    by Joel Monture (Author)

The George Barth book is a bit closer on sidestitch/diagonal weave although when I learned it from the HoChunk it is done from left to right. When George watched me demonstrate he saw a double technique that started in the middle. Then he wrote up his instructions going from right to left.

Actually, the two books that were most beneficial to me were by Horace Goodhue (only one book, look it up by author) and the first book by Sadie Starr. Great diagrams in the Sadie starr book and drawn well enough in the Horace Goodhue one.

Has anyone around here ever made a beadwork sampler? I am thinking about doing something like that to try out new designs. For some reason most doctors do not know this, I found out the hard way. IF your child runs a high fever or is on antibotics for a length of time you should let your childs dentist know immediately! High fevers and antibotics can damage a childs teeth, especially if they still have their baby teeth...
