          Cool! Great job! I usually go by trial and error too.

          I tried my first warbonnet last year and it wasn't too bad. It was just for a horse race and could even get trampled and tore up in theory. But now I know what I'm going to do different next time.

          I hope to try my first fan soon.

            ^ 5 grl fren ... i do alot by trail 'n error, cause that's just the way i am.

            This winter i've been spending alot of time, visiting with an older lady who's about 65 (while her husband is out commercial fishing on our great lake) and she wanted/wants to learn how to make 'northern' stuff. so, i began going over with my 'travelling' sewing kit(s) and teaching her - which is sew much fun, when there is someone to sew with ... the only thing is, i have been 'gently' telling her ... don't worry, ur doing fine, you don't like that first pair of gloves you made - well, we'll just alter your pattern till it works. heh heh heh - it's not happening fast enuff for her ... alas, last weekend i asked her, 'how many tufted pictures did i make before i was GR8 at it?' she said, 'ooooh i don't know a couple of years.' i said, ooooh no - it wasn't until i did my 2nd one - till i was a GR8 tufter. heh heh heh ... gawd love her, you should've seen her expression ... heh heh heh so, now she understands, everything takes time and patience, with trial 'n error ....

              How cool Inuk!! I teach a quilting class every week and I just LOVE showing the older ladies how to do something new. And it might take them awhile, but when they get it right, it's very rewarding - for both of us.

                rewarding for sure rose.
                i jus love it ... i am learning lots from her too, i never knew the fish out of our lake is one of the 'healthiest' in north america and boy her husband and his fishermen work hard for their money. right now, they are commercial ice fishing ... i learn'n lots - as i teach her to bead and sew.
                we both have craft tables at the carnival this weekend, side by side - so, she can keep me in line (lmebo - no pun intended)

                  Well if you need help posting a pic just let me know and I can help... I picked up a book on quillwork the other day so pretty soon I'm gonna try my hand at it... something simple to start out with probably.

                  Singing Otter.. yep that's the little terror! The dog was attacking her with kisses and nips LOL!! My kid has a good booty on her and has a hard time wearing pants without them falling off since the waist is too big for her. Not sure where she got the booty from though.. flat as a pancake here.

                      the carnival and craft sale were grrrrrrreat.
                      my knitted scarves and shawls were the 'hottest' sellers, i sold 20 scarfs and 5 shawls ... i was just amazed.

                        Geees Ladies...
                        Ya all make me feel so much better.....

                        I get a bit frustrated with myself... when sumthing doesn't turn out the way i want it... or i have to rip sumthing apart and do over, Im such a perfectionist so i seem to do alot of ripping more than sewing or beading LMAO...I am also very shy to share my work with others...LOL...but i ll gather up the courage... Because i love the art but i just wanna be good at it... and Inuk your story about your old friend makes alot of sense what you told her... cant always get it right on the first try
                        to hear all you expert crafters say all this, makes me not feel as bad and as dumb hehe...
                        I guess trial and error is prolly the best way to learn and you all sound like such Patient teachers...Thankyou again for such words that have encouraged me to keep going with my own sewing, beading and crafting...

                        ~~~ Never look down on anybody unless you're helping them up. ~~~
                          any time angel
                          all joking aside (well, for a minute) - even though the years slip by ... i can still remember my first art show - that i did with my caribou hair tufting(s), i was soooooooooooooooo shy and that's how it was for the first couple of years. THEN, it ALLLLLLLLLLLL changed ... lmebo ... j/k (kindda)
                          as for perfection:
                          well ... that never changes, there was and will be many many a things taken apart and re sewn, i don't do that with my tuftings and that's just because - i do that so 'naturally' errors are few, but with everything else i do - it has been undone and redone.
                          just as you said angel, trial and error ... but, keep on hav'n sew much fun.
                            What's this week's learning experience ...
                            i was visiting with my best friend easter wknd, she 'n her daughter just luff the new scarves i made for them ... we are all sitting in the kitchen chatting and catching up on our lives, when my best friend says, 'hey your smart why don't ya make me a knitted poncho'... lmebo ... knitted poncho ... hmmmmmm ...
                            so, off to the races i go - trying to teach myself how to knit a poncho ... lmebo ... that's this week's lesson ... all of a sudden 'tufting' is to the back burner and now its onto a poncho.
                            ps: i gotta get a digital cam so i can take pics 'n post some work ... sooon
