  • making plumes/connecting to barrette

well I have a white eagle plume that I was going to use for fancy shawl dancing. But then again I'm also intrested in the fluffy plumes with the marobou boa i kind of know how to make them by looking here and there and the forums but my main questions are
1)when u make the boa around the shishkabob skewer..how do u put the original feathers behind do u use glue or what?
2)how do u connect the fluffy feathers on your barrette or do you just stick them in your hair :-S?

    thank

I picked up a great tip from Blackbear on how to put your plumes on your barrette.....glue a piece of buckskin flat against the backside of your barrette, leaving an un-glued channel running down the center. This way you can insert your feather down the channel and the buckskin pocket will hold your feather snug.

          securing your plume to barrettes

I did similar to the buckskin. I put a piece of half inch elastic, secured on each side and leaving an opening in the middle. I secured it with glue, then tacked it down by needle and thread. This is really good for making your plume stand up straight. Also,l it's easier than putting it in your hair.

Either way sounds good, but like Mary did - tack it down with needle and thread after you glue it.
            ...it is what it is...

                    Attaching Plumes.

what i do "I really like it this way!!!" first of all my plumes are not wrapped in the colorful materials but mine are wrapped in white buckskin on the bottom and i put them in a special barrette I put on above the barrette that holds the piece in my hair they are both on the same barrette so if my barrette is straite so are my plumes and that barrette holds my plumes very secure with out crushing them it feals nice and tight i hardly ever check to see if they are still there enless it is announced that one has dropped then of course I check. Oh and when i cut the holes for the main barrette i cut the holes for the feather barrette ,I do this on all the barrettes that i make that are worn on the back of the head. if i confused any one please write back and ask k.
I got a fevah! And the only cure is more cowbell!!!

How do you ladies attach feathers to the back of your head? I got some fluffs, but they're not real, and I was wondering how you do it.

                      Eagle plumes...how to wear them?
                      by cherokeemom06
I am not a registered tribal member so I know I can't own actual eagle plumes. My grandmother gave me money to order what I wanted (she suggested feathers or plumes so I took that as a big hint as to what she wanted) as my Christmas gift. I ordered two side plumes from walela49 and I can't wait...
