how to make a shawl
hello everyone. I would like to make myself a dance shawl before October. How exactly does a person go about making one? I can see the design that I would like on it in my head but am not sure how to go about buying the materials I need or how to sew it. I want some designs in sequins. Do I sew the sequins directly onto the shawl or do I make an applique first? Please give me any advice that you have as this will be the first piece of regalia that I ever make.

Personally I'd applique it. That way if some thing happens to your shawl (stains, ect.) you can remove the design and replace it another shawl. Are you dancing tradish or fancy? -
I am not sure yet I am just beginning and while I would like to dance fancy but I need to find someone to teach me. I am thinking that I would make the shawl and go and watch and speak with the dancers at the pow wow before making a decision.
I was thinking to applique it also. i just wasn't sure if that is how it is properly done. ChristineComment

Sorry, I'm not much help there. I'm either cloth or buckskin (depending on how hot it is- 90 to 100+ and I'm cloth!) And I dance tradish. The best idea is to talk to other dancers and their family about construction and dancing- or better yet if you have a family member to ask..........Comment
