  • Macaw Fans

I have a question about Macaw fans.. are they a "southern" thing or are they more contemporary for all nations? Excuse my ignorance on that, I would like to know. Is this a new trend, or have they been around for a while?
    Thanks all:)

    macaw fans

Memory serves me right, macaw fans were usually used in the Tipi. In the past few years I have seen them used by some gourd dancers and just here lately used in the sacred circle.

Used in the sacred circle mainly by people who aren't able to get or carry a CDIB card. The ones that can't have Eagle feathers. Some say this is the new/old way.

This my friend is solely my opinion, I can't say if you could carry a macaw fan or not. I guess it's just ones preference if they want, could or not.

Greetings everyone...I am in need of your help. I lost my fan at Traders Village Powwow at Grand Prarie, Texas in September of this year. A new question to ponder, is it appropriate to make flat fans out of Macaw feathers? Since the Native American Church uses them for spiritual reasons.

I am not recognized and I have been told by some dancers that it's a better alternative to eagle.
