  • buffalo stomach

I'm working on restoring a piece that is a buff stomach
that has an elaborate quilled top. The piece has been
attacked by mice and is torn and chewed pretty bad on
one side. I'm trying to find a replacement stomach that
is tanned. Then I can attach it to the quilled top. The
bag is roughly 16 inches around..anything over that I
add tucks. Actually I know of an outlet that has
stomachs..in rawhide..but still need to get it tanned.
If anyone can help, would sure appreciate it..can email
    me at [email protected] thanks

    buffalo stomache?

Are you sure it is a stomache you're dealing with?

If it is 16 inches across I'd say you're right, but 16 inch around, is more likely a bladder or heart sac probably.

I've seen several decorated bladders, but never heard of an ornamented stomacke.

Is it paper thin, or fairly thick, also stomaches have internal linings that have various things sticking out to catch and absorb nutrients. Bladders and heart sacs are just smooth membranes.

Yep, I agree with whirlwind that you most likely need a bladder and not a stomach.

Yep, believe your right..must be a bladder.. is paper
thin with veins.. the owner was persistent that it's
a 'bull sac', ..but had a hard time figuring the diff
between a heart sac, stomach and bladder. Its about
a foot tall and 16 inches around...I can find a rawhide
one.. but then can't tan it! appreciate your help

Sounds like a bladder. Heart sack (pericardium) shouldn't be that large. This would even be a pretty large bladder.

bladders and heart sacs weren't tanned, Just inflate one, tie mouth shut and let it dry. It will be pliable enough to use for whatever you want.
