I am making a full beaded (soles A tops) pair of baby moccasins. They also have a liner with beaded trim at the top. I am trading with a girl I know (a bit).

I was wondering what my part of the trade would be worth. So I can make out fairly on this trdae

What I do when im trading is we talk before hand what we would like for the trade, but with fully beaded baby mocks wich is alot of work, I would think what does she have to offer? sewing? beads? hides? its really hard to say what to ask for with out knowing what she is willing to trade. Ive beaded for sewing, beads, things like that. I have made one barrett ,and my end of the trade was a bag FULL of hanks of beads in many different colores , some sead ,some cuts It was like christmas!!! IM getting ready in a month or so to start a full southern set , and I asked for a ribbone work skirt, blouse and a pannel for the shawl, & a ribbon shirt for my husband. sorry if ive confused more than helped

Thanks. The liner is wool & cotton (I thoght the wool would be to itchy for a baby). I make it like the moc, & it just slips inside. So it could be taken out to allow for an extra week of wear the way babies grow.

I am trading for a fan but have yet to decide on what type of bird. See I'm a city ndn, so unless I wanted a pigion wing...lol
She lives way up in the sticks & could make me any kind of fan I desired.

she wanted the baby mocs, I wanted a fan. She said we'd discuss the details when I had finished the bead work since that would effect the value. I guess I don't know what would be fair to ask for when i make the decision on what bird to use or if I should ask for excess supplies.

I don't sell my work so yes trading seemed like a good idea except that I'm not used to even trading. Most ppl come to me, I make a pattern, they get the supplies, I make & get the left over material. I'm hoping everyone will be willing to consider trading cause it seems like a good idea if I can figure out what my stuff is worth. Thanks again

trading is the ndn way. wooo hoooo!!!! !love to trade
since you both are in need i see it as a even deal ...one thought thou...you didnt say what dance style you dance. make sure you comunicate well before starting project...another thing you need to concider what type of feathers will she use? a raptor, eagle or any bird or parts under protection could lead to fines ,incarceration Ect...if the feathers in your possession are not covered by a permit issued by the feds..reguardless of cdib's or enrollments.by federal law indians cant even give. loan .trade protected items.i dont know what tribal affiliation you are..i suggest not using owl feathers a lot of tribes have differnt views on that issue. sorry to seem a killjoy but untill indian people rally to have current laws changed we suffer the white way...our traditional ways are mandated as they see fit ...Onen

Well, I dance Northern Trad. Both she & I can carry whatever feathers we chose, & I am supposed to tell her (post moc making) which feathers & fan style i want, i just wanted to be fair.
