  • What To Do With Feathers That Have Been Trimmed

I am wondering what to do with Eagle feathers that have been trimmed. Not the feather itself, but the part that has been trimmed. I don't want to be disrespectful either, but I have no idea what to do. Any help, info greatly appreciated:)

Your not going to use the trimmed part. So get rid of them in a way you think is proper. Theres no special way to do it, but it's up to you on how you do it.

I've thought about this before, because on of my older friends received his eagle for the depository and he was asking me about it. So my uncle's advice was to offer some prayers and to either bury or burn the extra, un-usable parts. He said that is our traditional way, but others my have other beliefs. It all comes down to being respectful.

        Trimmed eagle feathers

I just happened to come into this discussion by browsing while waiting for an appt. No matter what tribe you are, you don't bury eagle feathers. The eagle nation is not meant to be under ground this includes the feathers or any other part. The belief also includes not burying eagle feathers with relatives who have gone on because of this belief. This may sound harsh but as the elders used to say: "this is the way that it is".

          (not with any disrespect)
even if you were to bury the parts, it would return to the cycle from which it came. (you know, the circle of life..)
but It's best to talk to the elders of your area.
*also from what I've been taught, you don't just burn the parts with any random fire you see. you have to use a sacred fire, one started the old way with good intentions, in order to honor the eagle's spirit.

Well wat my dads tribe does is bury it. but its not just burying it. They give the eagle a name and food, and put a "ladder" which is like a stick or something and put it in the ground so its spirit can climb out. And we just take wat feathers we need and bury the whole body. We dont use the talons or head or anything.
