  • Leggins anyone?

Heyy! I have a question for all you regalia makers/crafts people: what's a good material used for leggins and beyond that how do you put them together? I know there should be some stiffness to them as they need to stay up. I had a pair when I was little but I can't recall how they were made. Please any input welcome!

what type of leggings are you making?

Fancy /Jingle style? or Northern TRaditional/Southern traditional style?
The only time its too late to start dancing is when you're dead.

The best thing that I've found for leggins to make them fold there shape is pellon, it's like a stiff felt, you can get it at any fabric store. You can also use it for yokes too.

Thanks a lot...I'm making my own pair of beaded leggins for the first time. I'm excited to see how they will turn out but a little nervous too. Fortunately I have a friend helping me out so I don't think it will be too bad.

Not I problem, I'm about to bead a pair of leggins and mocs myself. A great thing to bead on is crib sheeting(water proof padding) you can get that at walmart then you can back it with the pellon.

OK I'll remember that. How long does it usually take you to make a pair of beaded leggins?

Not really sure, I've never been brave enough to do it. I guess it just depends on how fast you bead and how often you work on them. I know it took me about 4 weeks to bead 4 barrettes but that was taking my time. Hey good luck on those leggins and let me know how they turn out.

I've beaded my leggings on canvas and then ironed on a pellon backing for more stiffness and to protect the stitches.

How long it takes to make them will depend upon how complicated your designs are, size of beads, what beading stitch you are using and how fast you bead.

                    Have fun!

                      Hi all,
I have a leggings related question... can you please tell me how to make the pattern for the leggings?

I made a pair about 8 years ago and don't remember how I did it. (I'm getting old.) I usually keep all the patterns that I make (so I don't have to reinvent the wheel), but for some reason this one is no where to be found.

I vaguely remember, but I don't want to waste any material if I don't have to.

                      Miigwetch!

You measure around your ankle and calf and then decide how far up you want them to come. Make sure you allow for hems and zippers.

That's what I needed to know too lol. How much do you allow for zippers?

You want to allow about a 1/2" to 3/4" it just depends on how much of the zipper you want seen. I only leave the teeth of the zipper visible when I make mine, some people leave a little more showing. Hope I've been some help to you both.

How do fancy shawlers come up with their regalia? There is no such thing as a pattern, or is there? Is it just a creative thing or what? I need some kind of idea. I don't know what to do. My stuff is okay, but I wanna look good too. Maybe, I'm just not real experienced with my sewing yet. Any feedback...
