I've always admired those gorgeous navajo velvet dresses. They are just gorgeous and make those gals look so refined, expecially with all the turquois jewelry. The velvet just makes the blues pop!

I made a dark blue velvet navajo shirt for my one year old grandson. My sister bought the velvet months ago and I just could not bring myself to cut it until the night before it was needed!! I stayed up until 5 the next morning finishing it. It was so small that I sewed it all by hand. He was so cute with his turquois necklaces and bracelets!...........but for the next one his other grandmother can make it...lol

I understand I have a Black Bear that I have had for years and I just dont know what to do with. Cant bring myself to cut it, so it just hangs on the wall. For a long time my daughter was scared to be in the room alone with it.

Yeah that would rock as a comforter, but the dogs and cat get up in bed with us for some cuddlin' so I'd be a wreck and it'd have to be dry cleaned. Especially since our big girl takes all summer to blow her coat so the pretty velvet would be covered with 2 inch undercoat hairs constantly LOL!

I'm particular to just dark black velvet myself, but love the christmas red and rose colored as well. A friend of mine though traded me some dark teal that just makes you want to wrap your toes in it velvet for making her a pair of mocs. She called it turquois but it was a dark luxurious teal color and so far I've made a beaded mirror frame from it that took second at state fair last year. Not sure what I want to do with the rest yet though. OH and I LOVE LOVE LOVE, chocolate brown velvet!

Do you have a source for Pendleton cloth, or did you use a blanket?

I just used a blanket. Pendleton cloth is so expensive - even at wholesale prices.

A whole cloth velvet comforter would be AWESOME!!!

I have a hard time cutting velvet just because I love looking at the yardage just all spread out... same with satin. The texture is just eye candy to me. But then I find myself running my fingers through it and have to tear myself way and actually cut it... but it hurts don't it? LOL

my favorite color velvet is that deep red/purple claret/burgundy color. I could get lost in it for days. *laffs*

- a whole length of velvet spread out on the cutting board on the bed.... the subtle differences in the color depending on the angle you're looking from and whether or not it is lying flat or in ripples... so soft and smooth...

*ehh hemmm* <clears throat> I need a piece of velvet that is > 9 feet long and > 6 feet wide! Wouldn't a single piece comforter cover made outta velvet be awesome? Even better: I wouldn't hafta cut it!

Sounds like when I cut out my first Pendleton coat. I could NOT bring myself to cut it.

So I bought a cheapy blanket and cut that out and made the coat. Then I had the courage to cut the Pendleton.

The cheapy one had a sports team logo and my mom loved it wearing it as much as the Pendleton coat.

I do this too, on occasion with my hides and furs. I have a nice Alaskan Wolf right now, and I've been putting off cutting it since March when I purchased it. It is sooooo pretty, and my little female dog has a crush on him too:)

About 6 months ago I bought some dark slate blue velvet - enough for leggings, aprons and vest.

I cannot say how many times I've gotten it out since buying it, unrolled it (never fold velvet - is Very Bad Idea), ran a hand over it - damn it feels so nice, got the scissors, patterns and pins out, spent some more time just admiring how nice a long length of it looks.... and chickened out and put it all away again!!

I got the basics of sewing - how to make a seam, how to determine the bias and use it to make things hang right, how to make a pattern for a thing that exists in your mind - it's not a whole lot different from woodworking really. I even have a brand new sewing machine. But for whatever reason cutting into (not cheap) cloth had me stymied.

Musta been the thunderstorms last night. Or the fact that I've finally come to the end of my "in progress" beading projects - and this is the next project on the list. I designed the beadwork and got the beads months ago! Whatever the reason - the leggings are finally cut!

Hope I don't have to wait for another thunderstorm to cut out the rest of it!
