  • extending leggings

Dont know if there is a thread on this already, but i had a pair of leggings and mocassins beaded for my daughter about a year ago and the leggings are already getting too small. Is there some way that i can extend them without beading the whole thing all over again. any help would be appreciated

to bead some thing like that i have found its better to bead on cloth then mount it down on the skin your working with then as they grow you just add to the cloth and add your bead work to that then put in back on the new skin leggings.

or just pass on your legging work to a young person and do all new bead work

The leggings are beaded on crib padding with brown paper sack to make it stiff. It does have a zipper going up the front and she can still wear them, but the probably have to be extended all the way around, because they are getting too narrow on the bottom, but i dont want to make her dresses longer and longer.lol this is how they look \ /, somewhat like that but the top has a v cut or almost like a boot cut on top. hope this is enough info. MUHAHAHAHA, somehow doesnt sound right .lol :) oh yeah, they are not beaded to the edge, but have bias tape and rhinestones sewn around the edging

ok this is what I can think off the top of my head here... make two strips of beadwork (on the padding of course) that are the length of the area where the zipper is... Take out the zipper..sew the beadwork strips on either side of the zipper and then attach it back on the legging. it does'tn have to be any bigger than you need... but if you want to be able to add on any more... then leave some extra width on one side of your beaded padding that you can bring out later and bead more onto... You dont even have to put a pattern on it...just match the bead color to the bias.
I might think of something else later and if I do I will post it foryou.

OK, now that there's some details on the construction, I can add my 2 cents.

You could take out the zipper and put on long ties and just add some colored material or something behind where the ties would go.

If you can find the same kind of zipper, you can bead a little strip and attach the new zipper pieces on each side.
                      ...it is what it is...

I'm getting ready to start on the leggings for a new outfit, and I've been wondering if there might be a better way to do them. The way I've always done them is I think pretty standard (for northern anyhow) - beaded canvas, ankle to knee, with a tie inside at the top. By the end of the day...

I read a thread about leggings and tall mocs, which reminded me of an issue I've had to deal with. The problem I've had with my leggings is that they keep sagging as well. I used canvas as a base, with cotton lining and satin exterior, but when I sweat they get wet on inside and sag. I've hear hat...

I have Comanche ancestory, that is about all I know at the present time, as the search is still going on. I do not claim to be Comanche myself as there probably isnt enough native blood to prove, but this is still my family and I am very interested in their culture. The question I have is, are there...

                          Beading books
                          by Mezzobean
I was wondering whether it would be ok to start a thread on books about beading . . .

I look through the Crazy Crow Trading Post catalogue and drool over SO many books, but don't know which might be truly helpful and which are just 'quick peek' quality.

                          So I thought maybe...
