What kinds of materials are best to make the wide, cut, cloth fringe on Fancy and Grass dance outfits. How do you stop the material from fraying?

We just used a polyester material, I cut it and it never frayed. It was kind of springy, but it was so easy to work with.

YUP, double knit polyester. I cut up a bunch of fringe for a little boys spider man grass outfit this summer, and it worked
well for that use.

You can also use ribbon, which comes in many sizes. I used 1/8" ribbon on my tradish set I just finished. I took a piece of cardboard, wrapped my ribbon around the cardboard. Then I layed a small strip of heatbond lite under the ribbon, folded it over the top and ironed it. I cut the ribbon in the same place on both sides of the cardboard, giving me to sections of ribbon fringe. Then I laid them on my material, ironed them, then sewed them down. The heatbond held everything in place, nice and straight until it was sewn down.

Hey..that's a great tip Spot! I'll have to remember that one.. that would probably work great for shawls as well!

I can't take credit for that great tip, I picked it up from Whisphering Winds a few issues ago. But man it made fringing my new outfit a breeze!!!!!

Oh man! I never thought of doing it that way. And I just spend 3 hours cutting and sewing ribbon on a little guy's outfit. Next one - Heat and Bond!!
