    I finishing my wood project (flutes in particular) by sanding them supper smooth then putting on a couple of coats of linseed oil, letting the wood soak it in really well. Then I wipe off any excess oil and coat is well with carnuba wax. I usually wax it 3 to 4 times. This will make the finished piece smooth as glass and really bring out the natural grain of the wood.

    you really want to stain it? Why not just coat it with a clear polyeurathane?

    finish for flute

    I am trying to coat my flute ... it is cedar with no stain on it now. I would love it stain it a dark color to bring out the grain and then make it shiny. Any ideas?
