I have done some pretty good feather work, at least my 4 year old tells me "good job daddy" so with that I fished a very nice feather for my sole pot. It is wraped with medicine wheel colors, then it has white and red yarn down the shaft at the end it has deer hair (deer clan) covered with a brain tanned dot. I will get pictures up as soon as I can. It is done in traditional eastern style. If you like the look of it I will tell you how I was taught.
Silent Quiver, I noticed you mentioned a brain tan dot. Would you know where I can purchase a piece of brain tanned hide. I just need about a square foot?
Any help or directions would be appreciated. I need to restore someones medicine pouch that was destroyed in a house flood
I decorate them too. Take a slender piece of cedar and drill a hole in it and insert the feather shaft part way(like a drinking straw. Then cover the cedar and feather edge with leather. Cover the leather with bead work. These can be left as is or then mounted on barrette clips with strands of trailing beads. On the other end you can mount claws with the hair on them. I usually add different fur strands around the base and then again near the feather start. These can be for hats as well. Or smudge feathers. Talking feathers have a longer piece of cedar.

I barter for mine, sorry I don't have any right now otherwise I would gladly give it free to you! It will be deer hunting time very soon so there will be lots of hides again.

Mariposa I have run out of all the hide that I had this year. But it is deer season here and I will have plenty of hides soon. Once I finish tanning them I will give you what you need to fix the medicine bag if you can wait that long? It will be about 1 - 2 months until they are finished.
I have had several folks ask me how to do florette work.
I promised the person who taught me how to do the trimmed florette work that I would not pass that information on. But I will cover how to do the basic florette work for those of you who would like to know how to do that. ...
Not sure if Im in the right place? Been going to pow-wows since I was about thirteen, I have been straight Dancin for a while and Im building a vest but Im having trouble with some of that floral design, any suggestions....
hello all....I need a trad recipe for ceremony. Does anyone have anything? I have ground buffalo. Does it still work for stew? Also, if I want to make Wasna, how to dry the ground buffalo? And where do I find tallow for it? Thanks!
