Hi everyone!

I'm new here, and I would like to post a question allready...

I want to make smudgesticks myself.
At the moment I have commun sage in my garden, but I am preparing white sage on purpose for this.

I would like to know more about it, like: do I have to dry the leaves before working with them or do I start with fresh ones?

Some people say, you can use other leaves as well toghether with the sage, like lavendel f.e.

How do you feel or think about this?

I'm here to learn, so any advise is welcome..

You don't state any of your background and your connection to the Native American community. Your questions are those that indicates you do not have the knowledge of uses, or the significance, of using sage.

You are right... I don't have a Native American background.
Not here and now.
But my willing of using sage is not to decorate the dining table...
but to give it the meaning it is meant for.
I am here to learn, as we all are in this world at this moment.
And if anyone wants to give me a rude answer than probabely he hasn't learned enough yet...

mammaflora...I was 35 when I discovered I had Native American heritage and I'm now 59; I have spent the years between 35 & 59 seeking answers. I have had the honor of sitting with many Elders of different Nations and I have grown in the process. One of the first Elders I sat with was bombarded with questions and finally poured us both a cup of coffee and sat down with me by the Fire. After several minutes he spoke softly, "you have many questions...is that all you have?...Ask these questions of yourself then sit, watch, and listen. When you find these answers come back and we can discuss the TRUTH you found so that you may ask yourself more questions."

This was GREAT ADVICE; you can not learn these things by reading about the Sacred herb to use and being told to "tie them together". It is not that people are unwilling to share knowledge; we have seen our Sacred Ceremonies misused by those who have little to no knowledge of why and how these ceremonies tap into the energy of the Great Mystery. When I learned about making smudge sticks there was a great deal I had to learn in preparation. My suggestion to you is to seek out an Elder and present them with tobacco in a good way and ask to sit and learn. What you will learn and when will be decided by Wakan Tanka and Tunkashila so sit and enjoy the journey to truth.

Its not just the Sage but where you got the sage that is important
and no not the kind you cook with either

I know some that travel great distances to get sage from a particular area and it aint Walmart


Its the same with Cedar it all depends where you get it

You see, even if this is not the reply on my question, it is an honest reply, and it touched my hart and soul deep inside.
It is not that I just had an idea.. being some stupid pale face woman from the other side of the ocean...
Simlpy I don't think I first have to write down my life here before asking a question..
A few years ago I have been performing in Holland with a group of Native dancers and they are fine people. I would love to see them again, but my work brought me on a island in the mediterrenian, maybe because of living on an island... Faith gave me the possibility and time to sit and think.
Over the internet I met some realy fine people and time openend the door that has been closed for all those years... and brought me back to my earliest memories and the dreams that had been given to me as a child.
They where there, never realy gone, but came back now and I feel blessed with the fact that I received the gift of comprehension.
Thinking of sitting down with an Elder... and yes.. (I know) bringing him tobbaco.. at this moment of my life is only a dream.
We were suposed to perform in the USA some years ago, but than Katrine came washed away not only so many lives, but also our hopes to get there.
Time will tell and as I respect all living things on this Earth, I also respect time.. because even if we cannot touch it, we live in it.

And Josiah , lol, I don't feel any needs of stopping at Walmart its to far driving from Spain ;D

There is a way of saying what I always keep in mind:
Don't waste the precious time of others, if you don't intend to respect the wisdom they offer you..

You are on the right track; spend as much time as you can in meditation on the things you want to know and you will again "I feel blessed with the fact that I received the gift of comprehension".

One of the most valuable lessons I have learned is to stop focusing on time because it only exists in this reality. As you seek and receive spiritual knowledge you will learn that we are given what we need when we need it. This is not an easy transition; at least it was not for me. I was 35 and felt like I needed to learn quickly because I had missed so many years. I was given my true “spiritual calling” when I turned 50. At first I thought I should have started this sooner. I quickly understood I started when the time was “ready” and “ready” has no connection to a clock or a calendar. Feel free to email me @ [email protected].

Books, the net, European powwows, they got answers, it just isn't real answers though. Europeans had spirituality before christianity, this would be worth your time to learn as it should feel very real to you as it would be the ways of your ancestors.

(we circuspeople don't teach anyone our language or habbits neither just like this ;) )
It is exactly as you say: books ect.. isn't real answers. This is how I came on this site...because I am looking for the real ones, and even if I don't get them here and now, it doesn't mean that I don't get answers.. just other answers..
About spirituality...: happy to read this words from you..
I am not christian, I was not baptised. My parents believed in my own free will, I had to make my own choices growing up.
And I am walking on the path of the ancient believes..I listens to Nature, and I listen to what my dreams come and tell me. And I listen to my feellings and messages, especialy when I know that these are brought to me from the Other Side. and believe me, I am not a kind of freak... I am 50, and I am aware of the choice I make.
My daughter is walking this path with me.. from her own free choice..both of us in its own way.. and we are proud of it.
Funny how last week I was able to speak up in this catholique country!and tell someone: I am not a christian.. Middleages are long gone, but still this is a tabu...

Here where I live it will be very hard for me to find an Elder... but I am confident that one will come on my way, when Spirit decides I will be ready for it..

i was about to say the same,

there are people hidden around europe who still practice their old ways, find them and learn from them as well, that first before looking outside your own culture, because most people are astonished by what can be learned from their own people
