  • Deer toe clackers

I've been looking for the "how to's" to put together a pair of clackers but can't find any detailed instructions.

Can anyone send me pic'sor written instructionsas to how they are done?

I would really appreciate any guidance with this, I am attempting to put together my dance clothing and am making everything myself.

If anyone can help please let me know.

    clackers....

I dunno about what anyone else does but what we do is put teh legs in really hot water just long enough to pop 'em and remove them with pliers. How long depends on the freshness of the legs IMO. Too long and you end up with a gooey mess (deer toe glue. Useful, but not what you're looking for!) the we just drill 'em and string 'em up however we want. While they're still pliable you can shape them a bit even.

LOL, you're making me think of a friend of mine, who boiled some deer legs in a big ol' pot in her yard for this very purpose. I think she had some real surprised neighbor's.

        Lol

We did ours in the yard! Isn't the most pleasant smell in the world I'll tell ya that! And now all the deer hunters in my community drop off legs with my mom or grandparents and we just end up disposing of them. Nice of them to think of me but I just don't use deer toes that much. Although, I saw a really cool southeastern beaded sash with the "dew claws" on the ends rather than tassels. They had a serrated bottom and were really keen. Been thinking of starting a project like that.

That is a cool idea. I have two 1 gallon ziplock bags full of "dew claws". I usually use them at the end of fringe with some horse or buffalo hair coming out of them, like you would do with tin cones.

If it were about your nation.....

My family just purchased the historical Tee Pee Motel in Wharton, Texas and we are in the process of renovating them to re-open in the Spring. Without offending anyone or sounding disrespectful, I would like your opinion on some things we would like to do. Since our grandmother was 1/2 Cherokee, we...

            Huntin' anyone?
            by tsuj510
Just wondered if you guys hunted and if so, what you like to go for.

I'm in N. California, but we have a ton of game up here. I'm saving up for a Winchester 30.06 and a compound bow-can't wait to use 'em!

            Elk Leather Boots
            by RDNKJ
Ladies (and guys), I need your help. I have a pair of light tan elk leather cowboy boots. Their great. Except I'm afraid to wear them because I can't find out how to care for them. I've been to three western stores, including the one I bought them from, and each one has said the same thing. I asked...

            by CicelyThomas
I saw a bag full of dentillium at Orr's Trading Company here in Denver.
And I was wondering the dos and don'ts of working with them.

I know they come in a long thin bugle shape, but I see them on capes and earrings & such, but in straight small pieces.

            Do you...
