I'm SO EXCITED!! I finally picked out a sewing machine...online cuz the local selection sucks or is WAY to expensive.
Of course, it's a SINGER. I started sewing on my mom's Singer Featherlight when I was about 6...making hideous stuffed animals. Nobody told me about seam allowances back then.
And when I was first sewing baby clothes back in the day, my mom bought a FANCY Singer for $400 in 1980, which I thought was JUST OUTRAGEOUS! But it did have lots of accesories, and an automatic bobbin winder, which is practically impossible to find anymore. I used it HARD, had it serviced and used it almost to breaking point again. Now I have to get it to California to be professionally serviced again someday.
My daughter acquired a used Singer, but they tend to be TOUCHY, and she couldn't get it to work right. I gladly traded her for my $49 Brother from WalMart...not that there was anything wrong with it. I also wore out a used Bernina, and a couple of off brands...actually gave one away cuz it didn't have a foot pedal. Later my cousin told me that it was probably a $1000 machine. Oh well...
SO...enter a new computerized Singer...forget the model number - or I'm just not saying until I get it actually ordered and have the tracking number in my hot little hand. It does UMPTEEN stitches, a few of which I think I will actually use. Does a small Monogram in several styles...thinking of ALL kinds of ways to add everybody's names to everything.
The automatic threader, automatic cutter and needle up/down settings will take some getting used to, but I think I will be spoiled VERY quickly. Has variable speeds...I like the 100 mph setting on my old Singer. Gonna spend some extra cash to get the 'special trim' foot for SEQUINS and 1/4 inch ribbon. I'm gonna finally use up the miles of flat sequins that I've been collecting for the past 20+ years.
SO...off to the bank today (missed them by 2 minutes yesterday) to deposit the cash, and get this baby ORDERED. Some of the reviewers online state that they absolutely fell IN LOVE with their machines. I'm hoping that I can have the same experience.
If it will sew a perfect wide satin stitch with the pedal to the metal....I will be putty in its hands.
