    Heck 3,

    That wasn't a homeless person....

It was either SteveStopsSomeTime or QuickSilverWade, who was restin' his eyes.

    Tipi Creeping is tirin' business!

About ten years ago my friend's uncle (General Grant) was doing some shows on the mall and he was allowed to set up his tipis (overnight)... when we went back on one morning, there was a homeless person in one of them...lol... but i dont see y they couldnt allow others.. i imagine it's a matter of paying for security or clearance. And watching out for your property..

    7th - 3rd streets preferrably!
if not... then 3rd-4th streets would do considering that's where the museum is. i think they are gonna have one teepee set up outside the museum tho - that's all they really have space for... or all the space the museum will allow considering it's pw weekend and there's gonna be a lotta folks in town...
anything off the museum property would have to be settled w/the nat'l pk. svc.

Actually it would be fun..there have been tipis set up on the mall in the past and some REAL big tens for events...why not a whole tipi village. What a site and what a 49....Too bad there is no one to co-ordinate this with the dance.

As for copyright, since this dance has been going on since the early 60s' every 3 years...they have the right to the name by use.
In a court it would be given to them because of this 45 year continuall useage. But anyone can use the name...just need to get the place where it is held straightened out when talking about the two dances. Boy, was I confused with the other message on this.

But the Dance in Washington is exactly that...a dance.
The National Powwow dance, which moves sites every three years, is not a dance Competition. The only competition is for Tipis and crafts. And it is open to anyone...no card showing, no tribal this and that...anyone can camp and have a good time dancing or showing off what they have made or bragging rights on who has got a great tipi.

About 400 or more dancers enter the area for some good fellowship like any open dance can be.

That would be cool! Line them up on the mall.

I don't think National Pow Wow is copyrighted, but I would think that the NMAI would have first dibs if it ever was. I checked the other site, and DC looks like the one to hit out of the two.

    Ohhhh....

Well, don't know about Illinois, but DC is going to be off the freakin' hook! That's where I'm planning to cruise to.
