    What's the best type of wood for tipi poles?

    Everyone seems to have their own opinion of what is a good pole. If you go into the history of the tipi board you will find great discussions on poles.

    I prefer the Southern Cypress while others like lodge pole, the more tradional, and then there is the realy nice Wisconsin Balsom of the Midwest northern parts.

      I have heard Birch was good and so was Maple. I think it may be a regional thing and what was plentiful when a new tipi was being put together.
