Tipi Contest at FIHA
FIHA 43rd. Powwow March-2008 Fort Pierce, Fla. …4 hour drive South of Jacksonville, Fla.
The fifth weekend…28th-29th. Tipis can come in on the morning of the 26th. Wed..
Linda Holley will be in charge of the tipi camp and contest. Depending on the number of tipis, $200.00 will be given to the BEST 3 tipis. That’s right, not just first place….all three tipis get $200.00 each. Other tipis will be eligible for gas money. If there is more money to give…they will try. There are bathrooms with showers right by the tipi area which is flat, green grass, parking next to it, and in close proximity (less than ¼ mile) to the East coast beaches of Florida. Yes…Security other than having your tipi in eye site at all times. Not traders between you parking and the arena.
This is a good old fashion TRADITIONAL dance for dancers and family. Plenty of camping in the area, but no modern type camps in the set aside tipi area. Tipis not in this area will NOT be in the competition. As more information is available it will be posted on www.fiha.info, www.tipis.org and by contacting me at [email protected]. We are trying to give all tipi owners who are interested in this dance and camp a chance to get ready. I will also be giving a seminars on tipi camping. The contest will be held on Saturday morning with winners announced on Saturday afternoon dance. Break down is Sunday. These guys want to treat tipi special. At one time there use to be over twenty five lodges at this dance with great competition for bragging rights on who had the best tipi. So, if you want to go on Spring Break…plan on Florida, end of March…Fort Fierce.
